Got there in the end

I got there about 2pm (just as the first lightning started), due to home issues and quite annoyed that I’d missed the 11am meet. Next time I’ll get mobile numbers!!

Wonderful. Loved it. Stopped by the Beech but Phil wasn’t there.

Highlight for me was standing so close to the Victor when it was at high power, although the Buccaneer “wet” start was quite spectacular! Although the fella on the GPU looked a bit too close for comfort 😮

Also spent a fair amount of time looking over 558 – she looks even bigger in bits!

Well i had a cracking day and have a sore neck and face from the sunburn! i must of drank about 20 litres of fluid to stop myself dropping to the floor. High light of the day was of course the Buccaneer runs. Together with the opportunity to get a pic of 894 and 900 together. And just think soon there will be three Buccs there.

Of course its good to see all of the resident aircraft stretching there legs and setting a few hundred car alarms off and i quite enjoyed the radio controlled aircraft. Especially the C17 and the comet as i’ve never seen them fly before. I didnt have time to get to the rv point as was helping prepare 900 for her first run. Oh well theres always next time !

Now .. of to search for that lead .

Well, what a day! Scorching hot sunshine, scorching hot jets, a venue that you can drive in and out of without delay, and more ground shaking noise than I ever thought could be legal.

I never imagined that I’d ever see / hear / feel a Victor blast off down a runway again, or a Buccaneer, or a Lightning. Or that I’d ever be able to sit in the cockpit of a ‘live’ Lightning. Or be able to wander around these gorgeous old birds to my hearts content. Stand and natter to the ground crews and pilots, get shown how this works, what that does… But I did. Yesterday, for about six hours, I was a kid in a sweet shop.

Okay, so there weren’t many props about. But two props were on the line; attached to Texantomcat’s Beech 18, which I have to say is a magnificent aeroplane. And Texantomcat himself went out of his way to make JN-4 and I most welcome; many thanks mate, greatly appreciated.

Pics will follow in due course, but unfortunately not until the weekend; me and my cameras are now in different time zones, so you’ll all have to wait until I get home. 😉

Ok, I’ll lurk around the Beech then. I’ve only ever been to Bruntingthorpe for driving stuff before now so it’ll be nice to see some interesting stuff for a change!

Driving – cross country routes sound useful! No idea about times or places for meeting up as I’ve never been to Bruntingthorpe before. Any of the regulars (Buccsociety / Texantomcat) got any suggestions…?

Any idea what the traffic exit routes are like? I need to be out in time to make Birmingham airport by six…

Are you flying or driving Steve? I’ve got a great X country route that will take you to the A45 or to the M6 (from when I was a biker).

Looking at the schedule, I’ll go home about 3pm I reckon. Is there an arranged time and place for forum bods to meet up?
