I was in two minds whether to post this or not, but I felt I had to say something.
Whenever someone in the media passes away, there are always the stock comments of.
“If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything”
“Don’t speak ill of the dead” etc, etc.
Usually by fans of the deceased person, whether it be someone from TV, a singer or actor.
I have never subscribed to this school of thought. If I make a negative comment on someone it
is based on fact not rumour, and very often based on comments that person has made themselves.
There may be some who are uncomfortable with the fact that their “hero” had a darker side, or something
they themselves were not proud of, but that’s the way of the world.
No doubt many will disagree with me. (There is no need to name names)

Prince was apparently treated for a drug overdose 6 days before his death, ok it’s doesn’t say what drug.
It was the implication that he was a coke snorting smack head or such – normal people can be addicted to pain killers or other prescribed drugs. I have just taken some pain killers for my back/hip pain – I hasten to add not caused by wearing high heels as he did and is now being suggested by the “media”!!!…
Until the coroner releases his final report we don’t know…
We often hear of “personalities” reinventing themselves. I’m never sure quite what this means, or why they do it.
Maybe just to keep themselves in the public eye, a vanity thing ? Who knows ?
Better to “reinvent” yourself than be stuck in the style that made you “famous” and just rehashing old hits?
In his case it was more that his inspiration for his music was drawn from such a wide range he could pull it off. If you get the chance (and can stand hearing Purple Rain again!) watch the recent documentary about him – it will no doubt be aired again now.
If I hear “Purple Rain” one more time…………. ๐ก ๐ก

Ah, you see the advantage of accessing your news via the internet or the written word is that you avoid just such a misadventure!! Although I have been listening to it and much else out of choice. Two huge musical talents have been lost first with Bowie and now Prince. Not celebrities per se but extremely gifted individuals.

From early reports not the normal drugs linked to celebrities – apparently pain killers for a bad hip problem?
As a almost 60yr old I can lay claim to having some Prince albums in my collection. He was a talented musician who changed genres as easily as some might change their shoes.
RIP Prince

Yet another celebrity drug addict self destructs, and the media goes
way ott in its tributes.

I would guess that if you asked most 20-30 yr olds who their favourite singer
or group was, Prince wouldnt get a mention. Apart from “Purple Rain”, most
would also struggle to name one of his songs.

The carnage continues….
R.I.P Choppers. No more monkey business :apologetic:
”One of the last surviving chimp stars of the famous PG Tips adverts has died at the age of 48.
Choppers, who played Ada in the iconic TV commercials, had been showing signs of heart and liver failure.”

There are a lot of performers who attract large audiences at the O2. In 2016 Muse apparently broke the record for the
biggest concert at the Arena with a crowd of 21,000 people in one night. I can honestly say I’ve never heard of them

The same could be said for most celebrities who pass away since many are not at their height of fame when they die.
Incidentally, the BBC have said that their annual obit programme at the end of the year will now be an hour long, rather than the usual half hour, to accommodate all the deaths so far and those yet to happen…
Thing to remember: in 2007 Prince spent 21 nights at the O2 arena playing to 20,000 a night (and the ticket price was capped at ยฃ31.21 as part of the promotion for his album 3121 – geddit?) as well as a few smaller and much more exclusive gigs after some of the shows, in London, so he wouldn’t be a stranger to those whose memory only goes back ten years.

Quite agree. A good friend of ours remarked, with heavy sarcasm, at the curtain call of Little Me decades ago as he preened and grinned for the umpteenth time “Modest little man”! Sums him up for me. I will not miss him.

Ronnie Corbett I quite liked. He was a genuinely funny and inoffensive person.
One of the “personalities” I have never really liked (and I’ll say it while he is still alive, to avoid the
inevitable flak), is Bruce Forsyth. There’s just something about him I detest.

I think you have a flawed image of Graham.
How so? It seems generally accepted that he had a robust preaching style, though his views don’t seem to be anything like those of your typical southern Televangelist. If anything his daughter Anne seems to have gone down that route (complete with the bottle-blonde Fox News presenter look to go with it). Billy’s views seem to be quite measured and surprisingly liberal though delivered, as I said before, in a robust ‘hellfire’ manner.
I really only know of him through the since departed minister of my parents’ church, who saw Billy preach in the Kelvin Halls in Glasgow way back in the day. ๐ฎ

Aviation content: Graham was credited by the author (I won’t try to spell his name :)) of “Unbroken” with helping him turn his life around, and also asked by Steve McQueen to help him in his final days.

Quite a morbid website; the discussion pages especially so. I was interested to see Rev Billy Graham discussed at length, with many speculating his imminent demise over several pages of discussion. That was back in 2005, and Graham is still soldiering on! Hellfire and brimstone must fend off the harsher elements of the ageing process.

Any guesses as to who is next ?
I must admit that there’s more than a few on that list I’ve never heard of. As well as a number
I thought had passed away years ago.
