EU mentally deranged

That new EU-President Jose Manuel Durao Barroso. A weakling from some minor country on the outskirts of Europe (politically speaking), more oriented towards South America than Europe. Some jumping jack of the French. And you know what the best part of the story is? After the EU-elections two weeks ago the conservatives resounded about electing a conservative President and not again some weak lefty. And what do they do now? Elect a weakling who is not only a socialist, but a MAOIST!!!! That is so insane! These people are compleatly nuts!

Ok – I apologise about the possible slur against your father.
But I do strongly condemn you for your inflamitory remark about joining the Nazis. Guess that history isn’t your strong point either. Did your father want the Germans to be our rulers in the run up to WWII?
Moseleys British Union of Fascists had a lot of followers in the 30s and we all know what happened to Moseley, don’t we? (Alright, having said that history might not be at the top of your agenda: he was imprisoned for the duration of the war for being ‘undesirable’. Had we been successfully invaded he might have become numero uno in this land.) I know that some former BUFs fought for Hitler (although very few actually did fight), many more fought against Hitler, and I believe that one or two actually became agents and were dropped in the occupied countries to fight against the army of the man who they once worshipped. Many Frenchmen fought for Hitler, it is true, since the French Fascists were probably easier to control than ours – not having the English Channel as a natural barrier to communications in the run up to war – and many were almost certainly conscripted into the army or into support units; you, of course, might decide that death was preferable to whatever your invading rulers might want to do with you. But many Dutch, Belgians, Noweigans, Spaniards, some Danes, Czechs, Swedes, and Swiss fought for Hitler. Some Americans and Indians (Empire, not Red) also worked for Hitler.
Have a go at the lot or not at all.

Hang on. Its not that long ago since WWII. Flood, my dad is 71, therefore its not odd for my grandad to have fought in WWII, is it? I am not saying we did fight the war single handedly, but I am saying I dont want to be “amigos” with a country which had half of its population join the Nazi’s in WWII instead of fighting like the French resistance.

MINIDOH’.
Let me put back everything in perspective. In 1940 when the French Army was defeated by the Wehrmacht , the French governement decided to “collaborate” with the German in order to avoid an even worse defeat.
This governement was lead by Philippe Petain who was a hero from WWI and people had a lot of admiration for him and a lot of respect.

At this point it’s not correct to say that x% of the population join the nazi.
Most of the population where behind the French governement. 60 Years later it’s easy to distinguish who are the good guys and who are the bad guys. At this time , the press was controled by the German and most of the population were just faithful to the legal French governement.

When General DeGaulle called to resist in June 1940 , just an handful of people joined him at the first place since it was a call to terrorism against the legal governement.

I feel confortable with this since my Grand dad was a partisan , was arrested and tortured.
Just to tell you that shortcuts are sometimes a bit too easy.

Anyway, damn right Flood (btw match is really really boring at this moment, half time :))

We should be thankful to the people who saved our asses back in WWI and II, but that’s not an argument TODAY. It’s not the UK alone who liberated Europe, remember. We should also be grateful to India, Oz, NZ, RSA … to name a few.

What bothers me the most is the fact that you describe ‘Portugal’ as a third world nation. Been to the UK occasionally, I can guarantee you that Onslow kinda-living conditions are not uncommon there. First look at own neighbourhood before judging countries you never been to (or been to, but managed to see as little as possible).

…Without little Britain most of us wouldnt exist…

Do you know what really gets up my nose? Statements like this.
Americans get away with making statements like this – possibly for good reason – although the patronised masses they are making it about tend to loath them. When it is some knucklehead who is trying to make out that Britain fought the second world war single-handedly, despite the fact that his grand parents weren’t even out of school then, it really gets on my wick.
Face it, a lot of good people died to bring liberty to the downtrodden masses of occupied Europe and many of them didn’t come from Britain; via Britain, certainly, and there is no denying that without this island off the western coast it almost certainly wouldn’t have been possible but you are starting to come across as so damned similar to those stuck up their own ass Yanks who seem to think the world should bow down to American dominance it is not true!
How can I put this without annoying those footy fans I annoyed previously when I didn’t agree that we wuz robbed? Britain is not the place you seem to think it is. Europe might not be the place that you think it is.
How come the French want us in because we are competition although they don’t like competition because they can’t compete?

Yes, but it is “little” Britain, as much as it is “little” France.

But there’s a football game on TV (Czech Rep vs Denmark) and I want to save the other people on the forum a 10-page long lecture. However, you’re using the word “you” as if all 24 other memberstates have one similar goal and that is to destroy the UK. Pathetic it is, I don’t know you, but, it’s never too late to go to school.

Lol. And only the other day a French journalist said that Britain was “little” Britain. Without little Britain most of us wouldnt exist. Stuff the EU up your a***. Just because you guys pretend to be lovey dovey doesnt mean we should. I dont want to pay for a load of poor countries through the EU, we dont need to be in the EU to help anyone. The reason the French want us in is because we are competition, and the French dont like competition because they cant compete.

Yeah, there were other candidates, but there was one country, on an island which keeps blocking “strong” candidates and wants to replace them. This particular country however considers itself to be very anti-EU, still, they like to have the last say on European politics. I forgot the name though.

Distiller, I just finished my exams and I really don’t want to start discussing historical facts. But your arguments are about the stupidest one I ever heard, I wouldn’t expect to hear them from a mentally retarted 6-year old. Bringing up the seven years war to prove France is still imperialist.        France payed back Engand some years later by supporting the founding of a new country you want to form a federation with today.

Problem today is that being ignorant is kind of accepted, because that means you are conservative and I should respect your opinion. So it’s OK for you to bash on Portugal, France and the rest of Europe … after all, it’s an opinion. France, catholic culture 😀 😀 😀 Yeah, if there’s on single nation on this world which is really not religious it must be France! If it wasn’t of France, God would be in our constitution (which I thought was a good thing to stress on Europe’s Judeo-Christian heritage). But France is already more than 200 years a secular state. I guess you never heard about the French Revolution as well. Funny you didn’t mention Hastings. Look I could go on untill the cows come home, but that would let me look like a complete arrogant *******. But sorry, folks, such kind of nonsence can not be accepted. There are other ways to discuss Euro-scepticism without these xenophic arguments. Sad sad it is.

Jep, this here child knows him his Portugal. The small villages, those two cities, the so-so food, that tantalising poverty a lot of older folks living in in the backcountry, the small backroads and those huge multi-lane autobahns going from nowhere to nowhere without any traffic that were built with other people’s money from the EU. And a few islands in the Atlantic. And that other larger country speaking Portugese in South America.

What the French have to do with it? Obstruct all suitable candidates, agree to some dizzy stooge as uberbigshot in Bruxelles and have your way… And a lot of other things I dont want to write now. The last thing the French want is a strong competent character leading the EU, unless that person is French that is. France is not interested in Europe, only in France and tries to re-write the results of the seven years war and the Napoleonic wars through the backdoor and with the help of some authoritarian elitist club called EU. Wherever the French are involved something fishy results (even in soccer). Cant walk the straight line these guys. Part of catholic culture I reccon. And if some day the Germans plop their heads out of the French azz things in Europe might eventually normalize and something meaningful could evolve. But chances for that, you know, like hell freezing over.

I guess you should see a Doctor my dear !!!

About Portuguese food: well I had both food in England and Portugal , and guess what’s my favorite one?

So you’r theory is : France wants to screw up EU and England wants to improve it? Thanks for the good laugh 😮
About the rest of your prose it’s just pathetic …

What are talking about ????
This guy is only a potential candidate and he is Portuguese (you know this country?).
What have the French to do with that in your anti-EU paranoia?
