Remembered With Honour?
At Brookwood Military Cemetery stands a memorial to those Army personnel “..whom the fortune of war denied a known and honoured grave.” On the monument is the inscription “Their Name Liveth For Evermore”. Well, not exactly in all cases, perhaps.
This memorial has the names of eighteen convicted and executed murderers (including one double child killer) and the name of one executed spy who may well have been responsible for very many British deaths. They have “no known or honoured grave” because they are buried in British prisons and the Army seemingly forgot or failed to give them a dishonourable discharge the day before execution as was the way with RAF or RN murderers. Thus, Gnr Ernest Kemp, RA, is perhaps one of the very first Army casualties of D-Day. He died on the gallows at Wandsworth at dawn on 6 June 1944 for the brutal murder of WAAF Miriam Deeley.
The MOD refuse to have the names removed. One of their arguments is that: “this would cause distress to the families of the executed felons.” Oh, really? So it doesn’t matter about the feelings of the families of the victims, then?
I have pending an HM Government e-petition to campaign to have these names struck off, but this comes against the background of an announcement that another Army murderer who was executed is having his name ADDED because it had been left off in error. To me, that is somehow worse than a failure to remove the other names.
In this, the CWGC are blameless and beyond reproach. It is MOD policy, not the policy of the CWGC.
I hope there will be interest here in signing an e-petition if is approved. I believe that one of the first signatories is likely to be a family member of WAAF Miriam Deeley.

Bump!
Just in case you haven’t seen this or signed the petition, thought I’d bump it up.
Little hope of reaching the magic figure, but every signature makes a point.

That is no coincidence…..;)

I noticed that the latest ‘After the Battle’ book release, ‘Scenes of Murder’, makes mention of this issue.
By: Arabella-Cox - 27th January 2012 at 12:33
No.
I doubt they would be greatly interested in getting involved in the politics of it…but then they might be.
If anyone would like to draw it to their attention, please do.

a question from another forum where I posted this (http://forums.diecast-aviation.eu/showthread.php?p=436137#post436137)
Is there any support, feedback, or “take up” from the British Legion to the campaign?

I could be wrong Baz, and frequently am, but I think it needs 10.000 or more to get a reading in Westminister.
Or, better still, just ONE, from Cameron ordering all our Forces to pull out NOW.

Andy. E petition signed.Strangly enough my wife also agrees:eek: most unusual.
Tornado Let it drop, these names dishonour the “Good guys” on the Memorial.
and your not doing much good for yourself, however, you are entitled to your opinion.
I can see where your coming from re evidence in those days by the Police, but recently there has been a case here in the U.K. where the person arrested for a crime was comitted by a Professor of Forensic Science. He stated that the chances of D.N.A. is right in ONE TRILLION cases, against ONE, being wrong.in one Trillion cases. It’s not Forensics thats wrong, it’s the Judicial system. The C.P.S. when I was a Copper, was told to LOSE 17% of submitted cases, Makes one wonder if things have changed all that much don’t it?.

E petition signed
Going slightly off topic sorry
I see that in a previous post Timothy Evans was mentioned
My Dad was one of the Police Officers that was part of the team that arrested Timothy Evans. Evans said to my Dad as he was put into the police van “I killed the baby because it wouldnt stop F@@@@@@G crying”. My Father also told me that they used to go to the house on a regular basis as there were fights between him and his wife, even his mother said that he is an evil man and should be locked up before he does harm to his wife and baby. Back in the 60’s my Dad was at the so called re trial and was never called to give evidence, so did this lack of evidence enhance Kennedy’s aim of making a name for himself. My Dad doesnt think it was a misscarriage of justice.
