Isle of Wight Festival organisers defend folding chair ban
Organisers of the Isle of Wight Festival have defended their decision not to allow fold away chairs to be brought on to the site.
About 100 visitors were told they had to leave their seats at the entrance to the site at Seaclose Park in Newport when they arrived on Friday.
The organisers said it was because of health and safety concerns and to improve the “audience experience”.
Some visitors said they were furious at the new rules brought in this year.
Among them, Clive Woodford from East Cowes who said he needed to sit for medical reasons and there was no prior notification of chairs being banned.
He said: “I’m absolutely furious. It’s 175 quid down the drain. [The organisers] need to treat the public with respect.”
Tim McWilliams, Solo security co-ordinator, said: “Out of concern for the public, and to give the fans the best opportunity to view the stage, we have found that it works best to have minimum obstructions in the arena and we find by not allowing chairs it enhances the audience experience.”
Other festival goers said they had brought chairs in previous years without a problem and chairs were being sold within the festival site.
Seventy thousand people are attending the annual festival with Kaiser Chiefs, Kings of Leon and Foo Fighters among the headline acts.

Bl***Y nuisance, all of them, just couldn’t get that extra 6″ to crop their heads, out of the photo. I have complained to the organisers, and this year, caravans are being given priority as we pay extra for the van and towing vehicle.:p

Talking of which do you remember that Starfighter that came close to burying its pilot when it pulled out of a loop very late!

And if you look very carefully you can just…, yes there they are…, bottom of the picture, the ordinary folk that couldn’t stand on a caravan!
I believe some of them paid for tickets aswel!:D

Nice shooting soldier! Those and deck chairs should be banned from airshows, at least from the front-line, oh and the chav encampments of around ten people complete with picnic hampers to feed a million and a radio blaring out.
I’m kind of with the festival organisers on this one.
Yes, I can see their point too. It’s something you used to see at Mildenhall, and no doubt every other major airshow ?
A family setting up camp on the display line, complete with wind breaks, blankets, picnic hampers, sun beds etc.
I won’t even mention those with step ladders (oops I just did :D)

In which case not much for the management to take credit for……I refer you to my original question.;) This debate is becoming circular! Lets’s hope Tornado can shed some light….
By: ThreeSpool - 13th June 2011 at 12:18
If I read Tornado’s post correctly, the person didn’t do any work, different from appearing to not do any work.
By: Sky High - 13th June 2011 at 12:13
If Tornado is to be believed this bloke doesn’t appear to do any work……:)

By: tornado64 - 13th June 2011 at 11:53
, when and what did you complain about last, and the result?.

last week ……, a lazy , work dodging , manipulative , back stabbing , non trustworthy work collegue ………..nothing was done because management think the sun shines out of his ass
typical blinkered and innefectual british management …till there’s a major screw up and they are masters at shifting blame
if only they were as effective at good management in the first place !!

ironicaly they no longer allow crimminals in !!! that’s our job !!
By: tornado64 - 13th June 2011 at 11:43
There is a picture in the paper this morning of two small lengths of sawn tree trunk in a road. They have been coned off, no doubt awaiting removal by someone in full protective clothing, ear defenders, hard hat and heavy duty gloves.
if a driver fails to notice two tree trunks in the road ( however small ) cones are of little use
an eye test or a driving ban would be more apropriate !!
kids do not come with cones around them !!

Matt, Who is to decide who is and who isn’t competant to do such work, meanial or not, Oh, of course the Elf and Safety mob, would they come round my pad, and advise or even visit me to see if I were competant or not.Errrrr, I don’t think so, but deckchairs, now thats a different ball game.
