If you can find it in the UK, buy some, they could put the jocks out of business.

Toured the Highland Park distillery while visiting family in Orkney – in the malting rooms the germinating barley was spread across the floor in a nice even covering. There was a set of foot prints made by one of the distillery cats going out into the middle of what I can only assume it thought was one really big cat litter tray….
All adds to the flavour!!!:D
I have read that alot of breweries have cats too, probably something started to keep mice down in stores.
Anyone who likes whisky and other spirits might also enjoy jenever from Belgium – that is very good 😀

Springbank; sometimes Benriach or Talisker.

Scotch wise Not a fan of Laphroig far to peaty, I do like the bowmore though.
Have to say though my taste does lean towards the Irish with middleton being a favourite (if rare) tipple.
I tried Japanese whiskey and found it OK but it didnt really grab me

what’s the consensus on Isle of Jura? anyone like it?
Its all down to personal taste Kabir…if you like it then it is fine 🙂
Of course they taste better when on special offer !!!
Personally I can enjoy most malts (except for Fiddich) but i find the Jura origin a little bland (unusual for a western isles malt !) however I do quite like the Jura ‘Superstition’
Laphroaig Quarter Cask was a real pleasant surprise and thereby hangs a tale…the different aged malts from the same distillery can be very different and occasionally the slightly younger ones can surprise you (but generally speaking quality improves with age of course).

A fair criticism that we are criticising the Welsh without tasting, it but why bother when a) it is still so young, so simply cannot have the depth of old malts and b) I already have 5 stunning malts from Scotland, which will keep me going for a long while yet!:D
Not unless I drop in :p

I was taught the golden rule for single malts from Scotland is never to buy / drink anything that starts with ‘Glen’
Moggy
And who taught you that – an Englishman presumably?
As far as malts go one my favourites is Laphroaig, followed by the Glenfiddich 15y.o. I quite enjoy a Glen Morangie as well sometimes. (especially my Dad’s):D
As normal drinking whisky though, whatever Tesco has on Special Offer :); at the moment it’s Grants, although I like Famous Grouse and Teachers as well.

Generally speaking neither of those brands are single malts
I actually quite like Grouse as a swigging whisky. Common tastes me – much to do with having spent a lot of years game shooting where Grouse seems omnipresent

When going back to my roots many yrs ago, we visited quite a handful of distilleries, and could have purchased a Cask of whiskey, but it seemed well expensive, looking back, in todays prices it would have been dirt cheap, and would I believe been a good investment.

Scapa, Highland Park and Islay for me………….
I love Highland Park! My favourite whisky for a special occasion though is Glenfiddich 15 – a good one to have in for Christmas.
