Let’s see how far this story gets us, the idea is to finish the sentence, you then start another sentence for someone else to finish that one and so on…….
‘The summer morning air at RAF Biggin Hill was fresh, the sky was blue, we sat around the crewroom and admin tents waiting for the bell to ring, for today was September 13th 1940, the Spitfires were fully armed and refuelled waiting for another mass assault by the Luftwaffe over London………

…. Putting down his Creme-de-Menthe for a moment, Winston had remarked…
“Do you remember darling, when I said…The only traditions of the Royal Navy are rum, sodomy and the lash…? Well, It looks like the only traditions of the RAF are beer, b*ggery, and Spitfires. More Sherry, dear?”
Now, as the Skipper cleared the memory from his mind, he could not believe his eyes. Looking across at his wingman, the Skipper was stunned to see Lofty…

…. think about astrology”.
Meanwhile, over on the starboard side of the formation, Squiffy had time to glance across at his wingman, “Lofty” Cordwell. A big pal of the Skipper’s from Cranwell days Lofty would almost certainly have had his own squadron by now where it not for the time he debagged Stuffy Dowding in the 19 Squadron mess and hoisted them from the flagpole overlooking the parade ground.
Unfortunately Stuffy had been going out to his club that night and the sight of his lace trimmed directoire knickers in a fetching shade of Nancy-Boy Pink had done nothing for his credibility, especially as it was the evening Winston and Clemmy had chosen to drop around for a pint of Tolly Cobbold and a Creme-de-Menthe Frappe.
Putting down his Creme-de-Menthe for a moment, Winston had remarked…

…hears the first distant sounds of explosions, as Jerry’s bombs begin landing on the airfield. “This is going to be an interesting takeoff”, Skipper thinks to himself.
Advancing the throttle he feels the Merlin respond, as the kite begins to taxi away. No time for a proper pre-takeoff check…flaps are up, trim set, temps and pressures good. As Skipper looks out at the rest of the flight he is amazed to see…

… Jerry kites all headed in this direction, and it looks like they mean business”.”
All other thoughts forgotten, Skipper yells “Let’s get ’em lads!” and leads a chaotic scramble for the door of the dispersal shack and across the grass to the group of waiting Spitfires.
At each one an airman is waiting on the wing to assist in managing the straps of the Sutton harness and the radio leads whilst the pilot furiously runs through the start-up procedure. Holding the button firmly down as the Merlin slowly cranks the big three-bladed prop around until, unsteadily at first, the big V12 bursts in to life.
Furiously waving for the chocks to be removed Skipper…..
