With this years Flying Legends approaching fast and still no firm details of participating aircraft I thought it might be a good idea to look back over the previous shows and post a few pics of participants… There have been over 130 different aircraft on the flight line static only or also involved in the flying. Some are there every year (mainly TFC aircraft) some only appeared on one day and every aircraft that has appeared can probably be described as ‘Legendary’ in some way (even the ‘Utterly Butterly’ Stearman).
Most years have at least one new addition to the scene and some years there is a previous participant in a new paint scheme, which is guaranteed to get thousands of eager photographers looking for that ’x-factor’ shot of the aircraft on its own or in a unique mixed formation.
Of course this years show will be a bit of an anti climax to some, as they have already seen and photographed four of the expected stars ( G-PSIC, G-HUPW, G-CCCA and G-CCVH ), but there is always the chance of something we were not expecting, personally I’ve still to see the BBMF’s Hurricane in its new colours and the ‘Rasta Cat’ in the overall white scheme.
While on the subject of Flying Legends, it would be an idea if some of us found a different position to shoot our pics, as there is always an element of overkill on the shots posted, and you blokes who are privileged to get on the live side how about sharing some of the shots you are not publishing for money (just a thought).
Any way a few shots from the past to get the ball rolling, now everybody join in.

NIce photos everyone I’ll have a browse through mine and see if I have anything worth putting on. If I have they will not be up to the standard of the above. These are from Legends 93

If I look at the Flying Bulls website, http://www.flyingbulls.com/start_st_e.html.
They have got some nice planes, a Corsair, a B25 and the DC-6.
The P38 is in restoration in America. But why don’t they come to Flying Legends?
Ok, the planes don’t have an authentic scheme on them. But a nice silver B-25 wouldn’t be bad to see.
I know they’re all going to be at Airpower05 at Zeltweg but I’m not 🙁
Oh some pictures

Martin, if you were an RC modeller, you’d be interested in the Mustang plan in one of the latest model rags – and also the advert for a new kit in the markings of OFMC’s example! 😉

No photos to add from me just yet (really need to get that scanner sorted out…), just wanted to echo what Tony said. So many aeroplanes there that we’ll never see flying at Duxford again, for whatever reason. The ones that immediately spring to mind as I looked at these photos were Buchon, P63, P38, Mosquito, Dutch Dakota, Black Six, couple of Furys, couple of Spitfires… some because sadly they and their pilots are no longer with us, some because of retirement, some due to moving on.
But then the flip side is that it’s a fluid situation, and ‘new’ aeroplanes are always coming along. Just in the last few years at Legends alone we’ve been treated to six Rapides in formation (one of my personal favourites, that was), Polikarpovs, new Spitfires, Mustangs and Hurricanes, a P39!, Grumman biplane fighters, A36, and even Constellations and Ju52’s. This year we’ve got Princess Elizabeth back on stream, the Curtis Hawk 75, Peter vacher’s Hurricane, and anyones guess at what else might or might not be waiting in the wings so to speak.
So it’s not all doom and gloom. I just hope though that in future years we’ll be able to look back at the photographs we take now, and know that every aeroplane – and it’s pilot and crew – are still with us.

Not going as good as I hoped, one more try. Ten more, but still plenty of room for anyone else to contribute..

Thats why Rapides like our ‘DL have sheet metal spats around their wheels, cuts down on that kind of thing…
PS, Alan, have taken note of your PM, will make plenty of enquiries and brew plenty of cunning schemes on our mysterious trip to ‘that London’ tomorrow!
Just got back from a pub quiz, probably owing the TFC chaps a beer as the answer ‘Grumman Tigercat’ won our team the ‘beer round’ (due to the generous beer-related prize I now cannot recall the precise details of the question 😮 )… should be an interesting day tomorrow!
~Which goes to show what a fantastic educational resource ‘Legends is~
