I’m curious to know if the webmasters are aware that this forum is getting slower to load more frequently over the last week or so? I’ve exhausted all the usual user-end options (I’m a pc fixer so quite aware that at my end it may have been my pc needing a clear-out) and comparing my frequently visited websites – this one stands out as very obvious. Page loading when first visiting each day is a nightmare with slow / partial loading at first. Once I start using one forum section and start reading posts – the forum gets really ‘clunky’. I’m on a 100mb broadband so this really should not be happening?
I suspect the server is getting overloaded at busy times (there is no obvious really quiet time from what I can tell)….

Ah! That explains all those nice Russian girls looking for a home :love-struck:
Any link? The Latvian ones I imported seem to have run away!

Re 23
……”targeted on your search history….”
If anything of an ADULT nature appears on your screens it is nothing to do with me. Any suggestions to the contrary will incur the wrath of Messrs Sue, Grabitt & Runne

Not really a speed issue, just a bit ‘clunky’ sometimes – don’t believe it’s water related as we’ve just paid our water rates, so we should be OK!! 😀

Still no speed problems here – TO you are close enough to Bomber Country to be affected by the damp potato fields referred to above, I suspect!

The occasional forum ‘hang-ups’ that sometime occur here seem to be advert related. Looking at some of the forum adverts that come in on this PC seem to not just be search related, but also browsing related.
Note to self, stop looking at any threads about Spitfires because you don’t really want a Spitfire Egg Chair!!
As a casual observation it also tends to be worse first thing in the morning and when I’m not logged in.

No, you don’t have the same ads, as they are targeted on your search history..

I have been monitoring the ads since your comment and can find little or no link between them and any searches within the past year or so…..not saying you are wrong but it does not appear to be particularly effective marketing.

Now I’m getting a few problems. Every time I try to place a comment, I get invited to log-on. Having completed that process, I then cannot return to the correct forum or my selected place on that forum.
I can recover the process by clicking on ‘Aviation Forum’ and starting from scratch.
Should I be patient and wait for the potato fields of Bomber County to dry out ?
Speed isn’t a problem for me.

Why should I want to go from Glasgow to Alicante and buy an Isuzu D- Max? – whatever it is……

No, you don’t have the same ads, as they are targeted on your search history..
Its entirely possible that a set of ads that are seen by one set of people are causing a slow down.
It does run slowly for me on occasion, but my broadband is utterly cr@p, which I am certain is the issue.

I have the same ads.
As I said before, the last time we had a few reports of slow-running it turned out to be a geographic / routeing issue.
This forum reaches your home from the wilds of Lincolnshire by one route, one that has some kind of issue (probably weather driven right now), information from other fora reaches you by a different route, not faced with that obstruction.

That’s the point though. We don’t know why it is like it is. We are only reporting what we are seeing. Almost every other website loads quickly but sometimes this one takes a while and occasionally flags up a Java script error.
Lots of the time it is OK, which makes troubleshooting difficult.
To me , it points to the adverts that are placed on the page.

everythings running fine for me too..?

Can either of you explain to me – a non-teccy – how there could be a problem at the forum end and yet I (and several others who have reported) still have a normal, pretty speedy, response?
It seems counter-intuitive.
But if you have some theory I’ll happily pass that back also.

Cache clearance was one of the first things I did Moggy… as I said I’m a pc man anyway so before posting I had exhausted all the user options available including trying on various pc’s dotted around the house – most of which are clear of any history of me logging into here. It’s only my personal pc that had any log in data saved – so I am at a loss to understand what happened?
In future I won’t bother advising of any issues with this forum – it IS just this site that has performed poorly at random intervals? If the webmaster & co believe it is not a problem their end, then I’ll just let the issue continue. Other forums in the past have been far more ‘on the ball’ but as very few even replied to this thread out of the huge membership then how can they actually tell?

Do the web people work for BT? That’s usually their stock answer. “Our kit is fine so it must be your fault”
The fact that most other websites I visit load quickly except on occasion this one must also be my fault. Whatever……

Right the word from those that know is as follows:
We can find no problem at this end.
The site has been designed so that the page loads first then the ads, so if it were the ads causing it then users would still see the content first then the ads would load next.
Average page loads are 3-seconds according to Google and we don’t think that’s bad considering there is a 4GB database the server has to search through for content. May I suggest users try clearing their cache? This should help.

I have dropped the Webbie a note and will let you know what transpires.
In the past when a handful of people have been slow (rather that the forum itself) it has turned out to be a network issue affecting certain geographic areas on the route from Key to user.
Moggy
Edit:- Webbie is making a quick check on a few things as we speak

Well it’s a majority of the respondents here. And would tend to belie your suggestion that it is Key where your problem lies.
