HOORAY
HI THERE PAPA LIMA it is part of the cooling system from HURRICANE P3179 flown by dennis noble of 43 sqdrn who was shot down& killed in it on the 30th of august 1940. the remains (including those of the pilot) were excaveted from woodhouse road hove in 1996. if you follow the coolant pipes down each side of the engine down near the supercharger end of the merlin there are 2 of them one either side of the engine its like a junction i do have a picture of a merlin somewhere i will try 2 dig it out 4you cheers peter….

This looks like a bearing surface to me, possibly the outer race of a roller bearing.

I think it’s one of the parts that aren’t labelled!
By: Papa Lima - 27th September 2004 at 20:26
Yes, got it open at the Hurricane page, starting to look . . .
By: Papa Lima - 27th September 2004 at 20:25
All right, let’s have another go with a P-51C installation instead! I still think it’s part of the coolant system.

That looks like a turbo from of my car! Ive been looking for it! http://www.dsmtalk.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=70811 would explain why the Talon hasnt been performing up to par.
Honestly, though i have zero experince with a Merlin engine, it looks like something having to with the induction system. As for it being a turbo, with little imagaintation i can see the compressor housing, and intake and exhaust housings. though Merlins had superchargers, negating the exhuast part, couldnt be that then.

Here’s a “naked” Merlin, but I don’t see anything like it here.

Merlin on a P-51B
Here it is, I think, the connection from the coolant tank at the front, just behind the propeller.

By: Papa Lima - 27th September 2004 at 19:32
Looks rusty inside, could it be a piece of a coolant system, with a couple of securing clamps on it?
