Guitarist of the decade

Has nobody mentioned David Gilmour of Pink Floyd? A true ledgend, and somebody who deserves his place in the history books!!

Yeah, Dave was a bit of a dilemma for me, as I had already put two guitarists in the 70’s, and three would be pushing it a bit. I guess he really needs a lifetime achievement award, as he has been playing for such a long time.

Anyway, as I said in Post#1, it’s a purely personal thing, based upon whom I think has been most influential in that decade. And like him or not, I don’t think that anyone could argue that Hendrix was not influential.

Has anyone mentioned “God” or has he been demoted since his Cream days? And what about Peter Green – some of his playing is sublime.

fair enough to all those arguing for hendrix, but didnt he die like 40 years ago now? this was for guitarist of the decade 2000-2010

Hence my choice for John Petrucci

I had a point where I doupted wheter Hendrix actually were that good…then I saw a video of him playing Johnny B. Good….he played the first solo with one hand better than many of the little gits often called as “guitar heroes” with two…

I don’t know much about guitarplaying but like in every music, it’s not THAT hard to learn certain patterns and play them extremely fast. Thus you get stuff which in here is called “tiluttelu”. Fast, clear sounding yet in the end rather simple. If I like to list good guitarist or players, my first criteria is that the guy has distigtive style and sound and does stuff that no-one else does. You can critisie Hendrix as much as you like but you have to admit, there isen’t none before and after who plays anyway near like he does. Can you say the same from many of the other dudes in these lists?

Cobain from Nirvana, in my humble opinion was more gifted in making the guitar truly sing than Hendrix!!

With good reason, Hendrix has been mentioned on more than one occasion, but really was he that good? Cobain from Nirvana, in my humble opinion was more gifted in making the guitar truly sing than Hendrix!!

I think it’s generally considered by music aficionados around the world that Andres Segovia was the father of the modern classical guitar and the greatest guitarist of all time..no amplification or electronic gadgetry fuzz pedals or whatever..just pure beautiful music played with skill

Has anyone else seen the PAGE/EDGE/WHITE dvd called IT MIGHT GET LOUD…….Its a must for fans of the guitar!!!

im suprised Dimebag Darrel hasnt been mentioned, he was an amazing guitarist, he was murdered…a few years ago, all that talent gone to waste, but he did give us some excellent riffs in his bands such as pantera

2 mins 25 of that was superb. Then it went Hendrixetwang, and he basically strummin.
I’ve escalated him from 100th to about 75th favourite Geetarist.
Did he ever play that live, or even twice?

Can somebody please guide me to a piece of Hendrix music which actually reflects this so called “Magical” guitar skill? Everything I hear is an out of tune twangy din, occasionally blasted through a fuzzbox….but I am willing to listen to your recommendations and give a valid reflection. He gave 2 or 3 good concerts and died young because he was a druggy, thus martyr to the music fans.
Duane Allman would be my choice from the 60’s.
