Whats with the Hastings at Duxford? In aeroplane(sept) it shows it sitting pushed behind a hanger instead of being in the normal lineup?

True…It would be a treat if one Herc engine could be kept live but I guess it would require resources and volunteers and funds$…and there are always concerns about risking damaging the aircraft..fire etc…I would imagine a number of the Newark aircraft could be maintained in running condition if the manpower and $ existed..the Varsity comes to mind.

Hastings at newark
It looks to me like she is in pretty good nick outside but in need of a good clean. Does anyone have access to a non high pressure washer that they could offer to wash her down? Damn shame she isnt run anymore I am sure someone would donate some fuel….?

Interior Design
Would it larger than a DC-3 interior wise?
Does the interior have any seats? I don’t think I have every seen any pictures of the inside.
It seemed larger than a DC3 in all respects but was a lot steeper! No doubt someone will post the relative dimensions of the two aircraft and prove me wrong…The interior has rearward facing seats in the RAF fashion. All the fittings and fixtures appeared all present and correct two years ago. Everytime I look at an old car or plane I conclude that life decades ago was a lot tougher but a lot more interesting… 🙂

Think I’ll just add a couple more of the Haystack at Newark. These were taken a few weeks back.
Considering the ‘frame has been outside for yonks, it’s in fairly good static condition. Never fly again of course, nor turn an engine, but it’s a tad more accessible than the one at Dux.
Cracking photos Les , any more ?? 🙂 🙂 , she looks in great condition .

I’m no expert but it seemed a very well-preserved interior.

I guess the Hasting tail was really high on the ground on take offs!!
Has the interior been preserved well in the Newark aircraft?

I visited the Newark Hstings two years ago. Staffed by a former Hastings crew-member. Very impressive interior. Main impression was just how steep a climb it is to walk up the fuselage to the cockpit!

I guess the British Climate does wonders to the mold growth on the airframes…maybe one day they might be able to freshen the paint a wee bit…
Have anyone been inside their Hastings recently?
Thanks for posting the photos…

I wonder how long it has been since Newark’s Hastings has been moved?
Not for a very long time…a bit unfair to post these pics really, as the majority of exhibits at Newark are in fine condition, just shows the problems looking after a large machine outdoors, even with an experienced and committed volunteer workforce.

Any of you ex RAF types know what the coding means on an RAF Accident Record Form A1180 eg Hastings prang TG579 as shown, I might add the AHB, RAF Records Office, RAF Hendon Museum and the PRO do not know the answers.
