How annoying was the Red Bull commentator at Kemble today?

Marks out of 10 for annoyance factor? I’ll give him 11!!!

Good on Red Bull for sponsoring the Sea Vixen though!!!

Was Kemble where two spits and a p-51 were coming from/going to when they scared the living sh1t outta me when i was on my way to a uni visit by flying so low i got knocked about by the prop-wash on my motorbike? Fun in the tipping rain.

Would these be the ones that Warbird UK was refering to in his post last night? Probably somewhere between Bristol and Goodwood.

Is that with or without the girlfriend? 😀

As she is evidently now guilty by association perhaps she also needs confining to a darkened room (preferably the same one), particularly as she admitted the Mustang was a nice looking aircraft

I need to lie down in there on a constant basis just recently.

Looks like it’s time for you to lie down in a darkened room again.

Cheeky! Neither, as it happens. The ground crew is of more interest to me.

I didn’t want to be there. It was a gravitational-pull thing.

I like the way that this thread has gone from a crack at the Red Bull commentator to what is and what isn’t a warbird.

Hell, the Buccaneer, Jaguar, Tornado, Sea Harrier, Vulcan & Victor are also Warbirds!!!! Having seen service in the Gulf and the Falklands!! Both of which were wars!!!!!!!!

any chance of getting back to the original thread??????????? 😡

Hi CM,
But W.W.II ended in ’45 (Didn’t it? Or did you carry on in Maine?)

And postwar use of types might just have a little something to do with economics and -ah- offloading old planes onto your mates to beat back to Commies (or in the case of the Commies, to beat back the Yankee imperialists and their cronies) rather than -ah- pure merit.

Whatever; choose your measure, prove what you want. I have, I’m happy! 😉

Cheers

JDK,

I was meant front line combat for the Spit and Stang.

The Last Domi P-51 to retirer was in late 1989 when they got T-33.

The IAF last Glory Hound was sometime in 68 or 69 and that was a a reco bird if my fail memory is right.

I’m not a big Stang fan nor Glory Hound give me a Corsair any day over those two light weights.

Cheers

Sure Robbo,
As a Warbird, it’s No.1; no argument. As a flying machine it’s neat. As an important type in W.W.II it’s up there as one of the best. For flying displays, it’s good. For keeping the warbird scene going, we owe the ever-avaliable ever-attractive D model Mustang a huge debt.

But being in the right place at the right time is what counts. The Hurricane was that. The P51D was a minor player, the hard work had been done by the time it arrived on the scene; not that it didn’t do well (it’s pilots certainly did).

Don’t be seduced by the noise though.

So – Mustang, great toy for today. Good parts supply, and the crowd recognises it. A win. But not enough for me. History is what counts, and the ‘D’ is in the second rank there. Sorry, Mustang fans!

Cheers

Several Air Forces, including the RAF, still today have airworthy Spitfires ‘on charge’ operating under full military administration and not civil registered.

Mark

Mark – Please would you advise which air forces, apart from the RAF, operate Spitfires today? It must be a real mark of respect that they are preserved at public expense outside their native land.

(Add up ALL the other W.W.II US fighters flying and it doesn’t total 1/2 the flying ‘D’s – that’s unballanced – not wrong, just misleading.)

He’s right you know! 😉

Melv

I knew an ‘head hitter’ once – he used to run a magazine. 😉

Mark

Sorry about the delay in replying, I had to go to hospital to have my sides stitched up.

Great pics of the Yak 11 Olly, thanks for sharing.

That’s a fast looking quick son of a quadruped!
