How Low Can You Go??

There are some awesome flights here – but don’t forget the Kiwi topdressing pilots who fly low for a living, sometimes for 10 to 12 hours a day.

This thread has been going so long I might have posted this image before…when I was younger.

This is the shot, taken with a borrowed Canon A1, fitted with a fixed wide angle lens, from the back of a TF-51 on a ‘cross-county’ on home territory.

It seemed a little low to me as this unannouced eucalytus flashed by but this was normal transiting altitude for the multi thousand hour duster…and good friend.

It is common practice for dusters to fly under telegraph wires but I know to keep his edge in his younger days he would not only fly along the wires but underneath them, one pole left , one pole right.

He is retired now. 🙂

The oldest pilot in the game, John Harding, recently passed his medical at the age of 71. He’s been doing this type of flying for 50 years and has amassed an astonishing 32000hrs in ag work.

Here’s a nice shot by “MikeH” on the Fence Check forum of “Miss Velma” at RIAT. Take off or low pass? Great shot either way.

Superb. However I reckon the FDSC would not have been too impressed if this was a low pass on his validation flight. Serious debrief with no tea and biscuits……..!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

French Pumas in Chad. But helicopters! They automatically fly low. 😀 Now someone will post pix or vids of a chopper doing hover-taxying.

Have browse around though and see if you can find the French doing the same road but in Mysteres Now that’s good flying (but bluddy daft).

That’s the one! Just a pity that the entire second half of the video is him being put in the ambulance, and the bit that should on the end of him looking at the head-sized hole in the Cub’s wing the next day is missing – a bit on the sick side. Mind, looking at the comments, there’s some rum old people posting them…

Someone early on in the thread mentioned a bloke being clotheslined by a cub. I found it while looking at something else completely.

A 3 Sqn B(I)8 coming off the Tarhuna Range at Idris, 1964. Became the thing to lo-buzz the Range Controller’s position after doing your thing trying to blow up the 45gal oil drums.

Seems you people are begining to scrape the bottom of the barrel now. There’s a lot of pics/videos being posted of aircraft taking off! This is NOT low flying – it’s just a take-off! Even if the aircraft is held at low level before climbing.

Real low flying involves the aircraft coming down from altitude, doing a fly-by and regaining height. Like this . . . .
