Donated to the poor…..
Bloody good idea, after all it’s not a safety issue, simply a labelling one. I can understand companies not being happy though as a donated free meal is one less sale. But when you think of those starving the world over, there are a lot of countries could benefit, not just in Europe. I believe a few priests have added their weight to the campaign, for what it’s worth Horse is leaner than beef so better for you….
I’m for it.

Well, no’ not really GA, It was when I was trotting along quite nicely when I saw the POST, then decided to put my best leg, or two or three or four, fowards, then realised I was in for the High Jump, but fell at the last fence.
Unfortunately my worthy Steed had to be humanely put down, so guess what’s for dinner for the next few days?.;)

I agree. The length of the food chain and its lack of control ansd supervision are not good – horse or not. But what drove the story at the beginning was certainly “Oh my god there’s horsemeat in our beef!!” And there is no evidence of any sickness let alone fatality as a result. That is not the case at Mid-Staffs, hence my comment, as a comparison.
By: Lincoln 7 - 27th February 2013 at 09:05
Nobody’s saying that horse meat shouldn’t be eaten. The scandal is about the fact that the meat sold was labelled improperly and entered the food chain possibly illegally. If it did then the normal safeguards about meat fit for human consumption would not have been applied with the result that potentially all sorts might have entered the human food chain unknowingly.
It’s a “Red letter” day for me today, Derek, I never thought I would agree with most of what you Post, however, I DO agree with your comments on this. Most seem to have forgotten, it’s not just the fact it’s Horsemeat, any one of those animals may have been subject to drugs for some injury, illness, that may be passed on to us in the food chain.I think I am right in the fact that there has been drugs found in some random samples tested, which could potentialy be harmful to humans.
It just shows how little quality control is shown by the big Supermarkets, and also false labelling of an untested product.

A suggestion that this is somehow convenient for the government to cover up the NHS Staffs story is clearly preposterous as anyone who watches the news will realize.
A test.

Steady, Stuart – you would be guilty of knowingly paying without the funds to honour the cheque but it would be a strugle to prove that the supermarket was knowingly selling you horsemeat without stating it on the label.
In agree with sheytane… honestly with all the REAL problems we have here and in the rest of Europe this horsemeat story has grown to ludicrous proportions. I have been eating “cheval” in France for about 40 years and thoroughly enjoying it.
How conveneint for the government that the horesemeat story so effectively smothered the appalling scandal of the NHS Staffs story, with all the newsprint and broadcast media revelling in it!!
By: Stuart H - 27th February 2013 at 01:35
Oh, it just makes me want to sign my cheque at the supermarket till from an account that has no money in it (I have several of them)
When they pursue me for fraud….

Horse meat is great… in Hungary its a delicacy actually 😀 I don’t understand the whole hulabaloo about it to be honest… if it was rat meat, then some disgust would be understandable…

trumper.
Gary, I went to our local butchers today, and he has posters all over the frontage of his shop stating that he sells ONLY British beef. He stated his sales of beef had plummeted to an all time low, since the Horsemeat scandle, but things are slowly getting better.
Nearly as good as the Edwina Currie, egg comments she made.
