Israel/Lebanon Situation (Merged)

Just heard on Fox News that a 19 year old Israeli soldier has been kidnapped by Palestinian militants near Gaza. The Israeli PM is attempting to get the authorization for a massive military operation to get the captured soldier back.

Apparently the militants used some type of tunnel to get into Israel and capture this guy.

I’m praying for the soldier’s safe return….

If anyone hears anything about this story please post updates. I just saw it on TV.

Don’t you read history? Where and when was any religion a source of Peace, Love and Justice? BTW, do you know any religious-controlled state that is a true democracy?

The Arab-Israeli conflict like the crusades have several religous causes as well as economic and politic.

First of all, Abraham the father of all Jews and Arabs was supposedly an inhabitant of what today is Kuwait and Iraq in the ancient city of Ur.

The promise land is a religious idea, Israel as a state is a religous idea.

Jerusalem is a holy city for Muslims, christians and Jews.

The current state of Israel is a product of political and religous solutions and the palestinian-Israeli conflict a clash of civilizations, a clash of cultures and a clash of different religions claiming property to the same holy sanctuaries and cities as place of worship.

These religions claim to have universal values for peace and to coexist in harmony and peace, they claim moral values based upon peace and love, justice and humanistic values.

This conflict is saddly a conflict where etnocentric values have eroded all the universal values of peace and human philantropy that these three religions preach.

As war it is no more than a politic and economic clash which is threating global peace but the ironic of this war is how three religions that supposedly talk about universal values and universal tolerance goodness and peace are defile by their folowers with an unholy war.

Israel have still to realize, that it foughts an asymmetrical war. It relies too much on own military force to demonstrate what?! Why not to leave the task to restore the security of the borders to the UN.
I am still surprised how easily it was outsmarted by Hamas, Hezbollah, Syria and Iran.
When you step-in with military force, you have to know in advance the possible end or refrain from it.
When all world is preoccupied by that skirmishes, the Iran gains invaluable time from that and the Israeli deterrence suffered considerably.

It was your way of thinking, what led many Arabs in Palestine into disaster.
Europe is an excellent example, where millions of people were forced to leave through changing borders. The Balkans are a worth remains from WWs compared to Germany and Austria.

Ahh, so they would have been much better off just sitting and doing nothing, and let the incoming hordes of new Jewish settlers seize and take everything for free, right? Well, that is certainly something new!

I’m confused by the extreme support of Israel by some Americans. On the forums on www.freerepublic.com people are calling for the US to give free equipment to the Israelis and some people even want the US to fight the war for Israel.

It has to do with lobbysits and guilt. Some idiot politicians still think that we owe something to Israel because of what Hitler did in WWII. Why anybody other than the beaten Nazi regime or Chamberlain should have felt or owed anything to the Jewish people after WWII is beyond me. Anyway, other politicians are elected using money from Jewish lobbyists and are therefore less likely to take a stance which the Jewish voters might find wrong.

Israel is also supposed to be the “example of democracy” in the Middle East, as such we’ve supported them since the 50’s: when the USSR sided with Egypt, Eisenhower had no choice really but to side with Israel. They can murder US sailors and sell our technology to China, but we don’t care, they’re the awesome Israelis! This kind of blind support is absolutely disgusting. They’ve made their bed over there, cut off ALL US support and let them lie in it.

Maybe they should have. All people deserve their own country.

No, they don’t. If every bunch of 200 losers would want to create an independant state, that would be one hardly imaginable mess.

Why the hell should every single group of people that can identify themselves with a single common element get their own country? At that rate you’d end up with a few billion nations eventually, each with populations of 1.

At any rate, consider this. Why should Jews have been given Israel after WWII? Holocaust guilt sounds like a plausible response, but that’s the wrong answer. Were American Jews persecuted? Jews in Brazil? Jews in Greenland? No. So why should the actions of one dictator affect the entire religions group worldwide? They shouldn’t, and they didn’t…not quite. The Jews weren’t handed a nation, they took it using terrorist tactics (Just like the Palestinians are trying to do now. If it was good enough for one…), and were allowed to keep it afterward thanks to yet another British foreign policy screw up during the time period surrounding WWII.

Any Palestinian of that time would have taken such fabricated paper as completely ridiculous. And guess what, his next action would be to take the rifle and to blow off the head of the guy claiming his house and field. This all without asking about whether the guy was a Jew, UN advisor, Prophet Muhammad or Extra-terrestrial. Simple but true. Defending the property is a normal and understandable human behavior. They even have laws for it in Texas, you know.

Hmm, stabilisation force to protect whom from who?

Blair said this morning that there needs to be an international show of force by sending a stabilisation force to the region straight away!

Good luck with that. There are two things that will keep that from happening.

1. There is no way the EU actually sends a military force to defend Israel.

2. There is no way a resolution ever gets through the UNSC; for some idiotic reason we’ll veto it.

Without Europe deciding to act alone, and without the US not vetoing every damn UNSC resolution that talks bad about the poor Israelis, this won’t get fixed. End of story.

Failed US-Isralel policy – so now, lets save the POWs

Although it’s an interesting thread to read, it is getting out of focus and it seems the main points of all recent events are missed in an gigantic way!!

It is almost the same US policy applied in Vietnam long after they realized that the war was LOST!!!

And why not?? It worked for Nixon – within a year “public opinion” understood that the Vietnam war was being fought for the return of POWs and that America would accept nothing less than complete victory (even if Saigon had to become Ho Chi Minh City to achieve that grand victory of recovering POWs)

Granted that public opinion is even more mind bogglingly stupid these days. and many arguments in this thread are just a blatant examples, BUT in order to get enough POWs in two fronts, some sonic booms over Damascus are hardly sufficient.

Surely some way must be found to drag both Egypt and Jordan in so there can be a more respectable opponent for Israel to symbolically defeat and permit Israel to “triumphantly” withdraw from the west bank? :diablo:

Meanwhile the lesson that Israel has no strategic options is being drummed in.
*they can’t occupy Lebanon,
*they can’t get Syria to occupy Lebanon,
*they can’t occupy Gaza
so what CAN they do apart from pointless bombardment and even more pointless sonic booms?

The Xmas bombing of Hanoi was a nice touch which “forced” the Vietnamese to agree to American withdrawal Coming soon: ie. Bargouti leading the (“defeated” ) Palestinians

No warranties but this was long coming.

No one is claiming or disclaiming the authenticity of the bible i am just saying what ironic is a war when the warring sides claim to be religious people who care about a God of Peace, love and Justice who gave them 10 commandments in which one says You shall not kill and no innocent should die for sins some one else commited or did not commit.

these two warring sides claims to be followers of a God of peace justice and truth a God that makes every one human a member of the human family but only do war and are far from the moral standards they suppose to protect.

They fight for a place to pray and the City of Peace “Jerusalem” yes ironic do war to get the city of Peace, kill the innocent to catch the criminal

That is why i feel this war has no holy sense and meaning and like any war it`s base is economic and political despite it is disguised as a pious war where hate and intolerance is practiced by both sides and where weaponry is tested

That’s like saying the Jewish presence in Europe was the reason for the Holocaust. Or the Armenian presence in Turkey was the reason for the Armenian genocide.

I didn’t notice Jewish population trying to establish an independant state in Germany but I might have missed something.

Wrong again. They had since 1947! (Landlord was UN)

If Israelis took all money they got back in 1948 and legally bought off the whole Palestinian estate to create their own state, that would be a completely different case and I would call myself an Israeli supporter today.

Bible is not a document, it is a book of tales. Or you want to claim the angels with balls of fire as historically credible?
