Kb976

Not a very good quality pic, it’s been bashed about a bit over the years, but I reckoned some of you might like to see it.
This was not long after she arrived at Strathallan.

…two sides to every story…

Sorry if my post came across a bit harsh. Thank you for your comments, i didn’t realise a Hanger roof fell on the lanc!! (ouch!) 🙁

Having visited Kermit Weeks’ collection about a year and a half ago I was suitably stunned by the number of aircraft. The Lanc was still in its shipping crates then, but there was plenty to be seen still. Actually the most interesting bits were seen during the ‘backlot tour’ when some of the storage areas are visited. In one of the buildings two Blenheim/Bolingbroke fuselages were lying side by side!

Much as I hate see aircraft crossing the Atlantic, I’m fairly sure there’s a few that wouldn’t be around now if it wasn’t for Kermit Weeks.
He’s one of the very few with the passion, and a big enough wallet, to ensure that aeroplanes are properly restored and preserved.
We’ve all got the passion, but not the wallet!

lanc and mossie

I think youll see the lanc done eventually. He has had her removed from the shipping crates to see whats what.
I had heard that the mossie is getting a new wing built in New Zealand as the glued joints are seperating in the wing of the mossie from her dayson display at Eaa

Can’t be too hard on Kermit Weeks for the state of the Lancaster, having a hanger collapse on it ten years or so ago did nothing for it’s chances. I guess with so many projects all these things take time, not to mention money.
As for the Mosquito I understand the humidity of the Florida climate did nothing for it’s future.

Having missed this thread originally(sorry!) im very interested to know more about ‘Kermit Weeks’?

From what i can make out this man took a airworthy mosquito and a potentially airworthy Lancaster (which appears now to be in bits, some of it here some in the states) and done nothing with them, are the other significant aircraft he has taken which are never to be seen again?

Cant believe that the Strathalan Lanc was complete until so recently:( Very sad

What does Kermit Weeks now have anyway? At the 1992 Biggin Hill Air Fair some of the remains of KB 976 (including the fuselage section damaged in the hangar collapse) as well as the dismantled Lincoln G-APRJ ex Cranfield and Southend Museum were parked together in the open air next to one of the hangars. The contrast between these components and the pristine visiting PA 474 could not have been greater, especially as someone else noted, KB 976, with better luck, could have remained airworthy in the UK.

Does anyone know what Mr. Weeks’ plans are for the Lanc and what sort of condition its parts are in?
Has anyone in the know contacted him to enquire?

Could it be from the Short Scion? It certainly looks about right.

SE5a

That one I’m sure doesn’t appear in the photo I have, so it must have been added later than my visit (must have been 1984/5)

Don’t remember the Swordfish at Strathallan being on display.

Yup the Swordfish was there – 1987 the Swordfish , Battle and Bolingbroke were all on the L/H/S of the Hangar undergoing metalwork , I know I got kicked out of college the same year – poor attendance . 😀
