This is different-there were all sorts of conspiracy theories ,some credible ,some not so credible but even after all this time they still haven’t found any wreckage,have no ideas why the plane was there,and who even was on the plane.
More questions than answers and those poor families have been driven mad by the not knowing.
Maybe the Malayans got it wrong BUT they really have no more information now than we do – – the problem is you can’t give information you don’t have .

I was focusing on the times when airliners disappeared for decades – take Lancastrian Star Dust, which was lost 1947 over the Andes and was discovered in 1998. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1947_BSAA_Avro_Lancastrian_Star_Dust_accident)
There are other missing aircraft you could focus on, but one that was missing for just a few days before being declared lost – like the Air France A330 – is not what I would compare it with. Hey, even the Fairchild FH227 that was missing for two months in 1972 (survivors eating the non survivors, you remember the film) is more comparable.

But the media attention works both ways: the relatives don’t want their case to be forgotten, and the story has dragged on a bit longer than would be normal, it is after all a very unusual case.
No, it does not appear to be very fair on that particular relative and it might have been better if the airline had operated a closed environment where the relatives are concerned – but then they would be open to charges of undercover operating. The biggest problem is that this is, as I said, an unusual case in that this kind of event has not happened before – there won’t be anything in the operating manual on dealing with the long-term disappearance of an airliner and its complement, so the book is being written even as we contemplate…

What I have found heartless throughout this sorry business is the way the media takes every opportunity to film the distress and anguish of the relatives. Tonight we were served shots of a wailing woman who had lost three members of her family on the point of collapse.

I get the impression that these are simple people who deserve of a little more respect and privacy.

The whole matter of the waiting families has been handled badly which has not helped either side.

Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak told a news conference all those on the Boeing 777-200 have been lost.

He said satellite data provided by UK company Inmarsat showed the plane’s last recorded position was in the middle of the Indian Ocean, west of Perth, Australia.

“This is a remote location, far from any possible landing sites,” Mr Razak said.

“It is therefore with deep sadness and regret that I must inform you that, according to this new data, flight MH370 ended in the southern Indian Ocean.”

Not necessarily – i don’t think they have found anything yet- unidentified objects spotted but not found.The wording over the loss is

This used to happen fairly frequently, but we have become too cozy in the last 40-50 years, what with very few large airliners not going missing for more than a few days after crashing…

More likely an acceptance that the airliner cannot be still flying around after all this time, there hasn’t been any claims made by any terrorist groups and all possible landing sites within range have been checked and found not to contain an airliner.

Plus the sighting of debris, of course…

new update the Malaysian government has just sent texts to family members of those on board telling them there is very little doubt that the plane crashed and there are no survivours, this suggests they have found some debris from the plane in the search area south west of Australia, now they just need to find out what went wrong

To be honest i don’t look on that bit but i just wanted to send them all my best wishes.

As for the Chinese families moaning about search areas, they are just basing there knowledge on what the press say… You do not waste millions searching areas for nothing, it’s a thankless task but needs to be done methodically…. As for the hunger strikes, that’s just stupid, the problem Malaya had is there was not one voice announcing stuff to the media, hence lots of conflicting messages being put out… But it is a learning curve for them.
