And, for the record, I was no huge fan of his, but I do possess fond memories of me and my mates trying to emulate all his moves in the primary school disco after the Moonwalker film came out. I don’t see any kids these days trying to emulate their musical “heroes”….

I feel sad for his children who most likely saw their dad die. I feel sorry for the fans that are feeling loss.

However…

I don’t buy this “…he was trying to re-create his lost childhood…” crap. Not one bit. Yes we are all creations to a large extent of our environment and of how our families raise us, but I think that choice and free will trumps any of those head to head. He knew right from wrong. I know he was never convicted but I am convinced that where there is smoke there is usually fire. He was a pedo, plain and simple. He was smart enough and rich enough to cover it up and buy a good enough defense team to get off with it.

Musical genius notwithstanding I say good bye to good rubbish.

Hopefully his kids can have some semblance now of a normal life because they definitely would not have one with this guy in the picture.

For me, the real passing was Lennon, everything else pales into insignificance, …….As far as I’m concerned, Jacksons passing has saved us from the inevitable up and coming media crap over his concerts. .

I am a large fan of Lennon’s, and no great fan of Jackson’s, not that I dont consider some of his work quite impressive, its just I’m not a fan.

Although his attraction to children was not “normal”, I am not sure the paediphilia accusations were true, and in anycase he was never found guilty of such.

However Peter, I dont see why you feel a need to denigrate Jackson? he was obviously suffering some behavioural problems throughout his life, but no one can deny his musical genius, let him rest in peace, especially on a day when his fans are mourning, he was a fellow human being, and too young to die, regardless of what you thought of him, or his music.

Michael was a very talented artist and musician and changed the music scenee forever! It is a shame howhe was treated in the media and I feel he never was given the chance to be a normal child and grow up like the rest of us. RIP Michael you will always be remembered!

I agree about all the media crap and allot of other stuff.
However you simply cannot deny in the early 80`s Thriller was outstanding and groundbreaking.
I`m a “Heavy Metal Dinosaur” and for me when Eddie Van Halen played lead on beat it was amazing. Everyone goes on about RUN DMC and Aerosmith being the first black/rock collaboration Jackson did it 5 years before.
I`ll remember him for Thriller alone and not any of the media circus that followed.

It’s odd to think of a world without him, even if I never was a fan in particular. This must be how people felt when Elvis passed, such a huge personality who produced so much of the soundtracks we (or I at least) grew up with.

I always got the feeling he wasn’t very happy with his life, which I hope wasn’t true. He’ll be missed, most certainly.

The Jackson 5 were out long before the Partridge Family. I want you back was a number one in 1969. If you are going to do a history please get your facts right.

He is up there with the likes of Lennon and Elvis all died before there time. Lennon 40, Elvis 42 and as long as music is played he`ll be around. A true great. As for being on trial for child abuse, how easy was it for some money diging low life family to get there hooks in him. Also remember Elvis liked them young and liked the drugs, but all we remember now is the great star. All humans are flawed, the more fame and power you get will only flaw you more.

What a spectacular load of nonsense. The vast majority of the most respected musical work in existence comes as a result of collaborations between the artists themselves and great producers. That’s how it works; the artist writes and performs (or both), and the producer translates what the artist and track are about onto tape. Where do you think the “genuis” Paul McCartney would have been were it not for George Martin? Probably still doing little clubs in Liverpool.

Have an opinion by all means and hate what Jacko did if you wish, but don’t be ignorant and use that against his work.
