My radio station just played a track from Off the wall that instantly took me back to my first trip to the US.He’s been the soundtrack to peoples’ lives for over 30 years,but it’s impossible not to remember the child abuse allegations,and his kids appearing in public behind those veils.My daughter’s psychiatrist (!) once explained to me that mental troubles often produced outstanding talent and creativity,which seems to be true here.But damn,the music was good .

I remember Jackson being on trial for child abuse. I won’t be mourning him.

And proved by a court of law to be an innocent man.

no matter what you thought of Michael Jackson from press reported incidents in his private life ,you cannot deny the talent of the man.

As much as I can almost understand your viewpoint, I do think only having that one sentence to say with regard to the passing of one of the most significant songwriters and artists of the last 3 decades really is quite sad. There’s no doubt he was an incredibly odd person and his work in later years was overshadowed by his strange behaviour and other antics, but there’s no question he was one of the most natural performers, entertainers and artists this planet has ever seen and I think it’s a great shame that, regardless of the negative aspects of who he was, all that talent is now no more.

With regard to ‘flawed genius’, look back through musical history and you will see many examples of people who were considered to be the worlds’ greatest and yet their lives were marred by all kinds of self inflicted or self created negativity. The late, great Jaco Pastorius being a perfect example. These people often really are quite troubled. 🙁

I bet it wasn’t much a logistical challenge getting the money out of the fans in the first place.

People who spout this sort of B.S should be crucified. The outrages which we meekly accept are quite astonishing.

Come off it, I don’t think it was that stupid if you think about it.

Most of the press/media are even saying how much of a logistical challenge it will be to get people’s money back to them; and indeed if refunds will even be made?!

I can imagine that ticket selling agencies such as Ticketmaster will be inundated with calls regarding the matter.

I loved a lot of his music. A world without him will certainly be an emptier one. Like the greats before him, he had passed before his time.

Quite tragic, a brilliant performer and entertainer.

Tragic – was at a Feeder gig earlier on and thought they were joking when they said he’d died. Forget what he did off stage, he was a magnificent artist and performer and I hope that’s how he’s remembered.

How long before the tickets go on ebay for a small fortune lol.

I can’t help but think the tour had put a large strain on him which may have led to this.

Of course years and years of substance abuse had nothing to do with it!!!

Very sad news indeed. No matter what went on in his private life, he was one of the most incredible performers there has been. His music broke all kinds of records and inspired many.

I had a ticket for a show on the 16th, one of the first (which I couldn’t make anymore anyway). There are going to be a lot of disappointed and upset people out there. I can’t help but think the tour had put a large strain on him which may have led to this.

If nothing else, he is a father leaving behind three children and a brother leaving behind his siblings.

Ditto Merlin. The best I can think to say is that this untimely and tragic end has at least checked what could have been a further precipitous decline overshadowing absolutely the talent the man had in his younger days.

At least this way he will be mostly remembered for that talent. Perhaps also he’s now to have some rest from the demons that chased him so tirelessly through his life.

I didnt like the guy. His music at the peak of his career I would say was thriller and perhaps an album or so after that but lately the guy just got to weird. Not that thats a bad thing but just totally lost on me.

I feel for his family and in any case 50 is too young to die.
