AN American inventor wants to patent a way of sending a message from beyond the grave — a video-screen tombstone.
The device is the brainchild of Robert Barrow of Burlingame, California, the British weekly New Scientist reports in Saturday’s issue.
The hollow headstone houses a computer with a hard disc or memory chip that allows the deceased to relay a video message via a flat LCD touch screen.
“They might relate their life stories… or worse: they could confess to lurid indiscretions,” the British weekly says.
The tombstone would draw its electrical supply from the cemetery’s lighting system, and to avoid disturbing other visitors, people can listen to the message through wireless headphones.
Electronically-enhanced tombstones are not new, however.
Other inventions include a gravestone that displays a collection of the deceased’s photographs, alongside tributes from that person’s friends.

Media Matters, the watchdog group that loves to hate Fox News
By Paul Farhi
Washington Post Staff Writer
Thursday, December 2, 2010; 8:09 PMIt takes only an instant for a visitor to Media Matters for America’s headquarters in downtown Washington to sense its mission, if not its methods. A few steps into its modern offices, which resemble a newspaper newsroom, a pair of prominently displayed signs spell out the basics: “Fox Keeps Fear Alive,” reads one; “Restore Sanity, Fight Fox,” reads its companion.
Fighting Fox is what Media Matters does, relentlessly and obsessively. In the six years since its founding, the watchdog group has evolved from an all-purpose scourge of the conservative media into Fox News Channel’s veritable shadow and constant irritant. From well before sunrise to long after it each day, teams of young researchers sift through video clips and transcripts of programs hosted by Fox stars such as Glenn Beck and Bill O’Reilly to find dubious facts, logical contradictions and poisonous – at least to Media Matters’ liberal sensibilities – rhetoric.http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/12/02/AR2010120205779.html

Maybe its me. but I don’t recall ever, EVER hearing RpR expressing anything about the victims of these frequent ‘occurrences’.
.
Unlike politicians I shed no bs crocodile tears as I am as concerned about their lives, as they are about mine.
It is a shame this happens and worse politicians try to use sorrow of others for political purposes, but such is the way of men.
I do not engage in the sad talk lie the liberals in this country pretend to have for the victims.
If you think flowers, candles, sad and self-righteous talk actually amounts to anything engage in that task but symbolism over substance is just political bs at its worst.
I would almost think some of you work for Pres. Obama as his speech from his Oval Office tonight about how to deal with Islamic terrorism was for him say we need more gun laws, brilliant.
Yesterday, rather than go out to San Bernardino and speak with the families, he went to visit Gabrielle Gifford, the former congress woman who wants more gun laws.
That is going to put fear in the hearts of terrorists.

Because I was bored and I was curious to see what idiocy you would come up with in response.
But it’s true. I don’t care. A thousand dead americans, a thousand dead Syrians, a thousand dead rwandans…all the same to me. You gun-wielders are all ****** up in the head and think you’re God. Well, here’s the news: God isn’t real and you’re just mental.
If this is what you do when you are bored you lead a very sad life.
Merry Christmas.

Never mind about quoting figures on Mass Shootings, the only thing in numbers quoted should be ZERO, if Obama was to put his foot down on the NRA,as they are using the 2nd to justify folks rushing out and buying weapons. It’s as easy to get a gun in the States, as it is for me to buy a loaf of bread. It’s about time somebody had the balls to say “Enough is enough”

You make the NRA seem like a house of parliament (to use a term the UK readers will understand).
Please try to learn about the American political system about what a president can and can’t do. It’s a system of checks and balances…he can’t just wave a magic wand, even though he has the media (and seemingly the UK media) on his side.
The NRA exerts power through lobbyists…which is legal and the same way every special interest group (left and right) tries to exert power.
They can exert power because they so many people behind them…which is a manifestation of public sentiment.
I do wish they’d close this thread. Aside from Moggy wanting to “stir the pot” and give vent to his already well known opinions (when he’s not busy proselytizing for atheism).
We have a bunch of posters long on passion and short on understanding…so it’s just another excuse to slag on the US.
I’m about ready to cancel my FlyPast subscription just because they play host to this nonsense.

Maybe its me. but I don’t recall ever, EVER hearing RpR expressing anything about the victims of these frequent ‘occurrences’.
A man who argues for the gun, cares about it, yet appears to care nothing for his fellow man. Someone who will dispute facts about massacres in his home country, even though people are dying at the hands of deranged gunmen (a wonderfully pointed word that doesn’t make them sound in any way sexy or exciting) in acts of violence that could be cut by a huge percentage with just a little bit of common sense and guts, rather than the wide spread cowardice displayed by those scared of losing their toys. People, innocent people, who are the same as you and me and him and her, are being killed in the street, their workplace, at parties, watching films, being educated, in many different locations all over just one country; it doesn’t happen anywhere else in the world, it isn’t organised like (for example) Mexico, in fact it might be said that the only way it is organised is by those who vote for it, who are members of the pro gun lobby, who manufacture them or sell them, since they attempt to make these weapons appear positive, normal, owned by normal people for specific, normal, security purposes. Yet it is not normal people going on the rampage – it is sick minded individuals, the loners, the deranged, those who were regarded by all their friends and workmates as normal, who they cannot believe would have done a thing like that. But they did it. Their victims friends and relatives and the rest of the ‘normal’ population mourn the loss and the gun lobby dispute the figures, like normal, surprise surprise.
No wonder their answer is for all to be armed, it must make the manufacturers positively orgasm with pleasure at the thought of arming everyone in the country. Why not take away the police – that would stop them shooting whoever takes their fancy – and allow the whole country to go back to old west law, with gunfights and quick draws and the like, and withdraw from the rest of the civilised world?
At least you’d know where you stood then…
Sad, isn’t it.

I know they are not as anti-gun lobbyists have never challenged their facts, even when their facts disproved the anti-gun lobby statements.
The NRA uses numbers derived from Federal, State and local government agencies, if they are wrong, the governments are lying.
Same for the GOA, Gun Owners of America, organization. Their facts are never publically challenged either.
For years the big new sources did not even mention the GOA but now they are sometimes mentioned also in news reports on firearm rights.

Ignore the title of the site.
I did not know it existed till I looked for some stats.
I am using it as it is publishing stats. that Democratic politicians, and black lives matter NEVER bring up except in response to Republicans stating hypocrisy of Democrats pushing gun laws, and the Black Lives Matter leaders.
One Black Lives Matter supporter was questioned about the black on black shootings on a show about the man shot in the back and he had a very hard time trying to explain how what Black Lives Matter is crying about has nothing to do with the black on black shootings in Chicago.
Now this city has what is said to be near the most controlling firearm laws in the country.
Yet this city and its problem is, or was not till this week, never mentioned in firearm stats, although their statistics are part of the national statistics used by the liberals, including President Obama whose personally picked, now former employee, is mayor of Chicago.
So do not think Obama could do this, that or anything, as if he really cared he would be in Chicago, not some suburb of St. Louis speaking of black men being shot.
As a side note, there is nothing Obama or any President can legally do to gun laws protected by the Second Amendment without the approval of the population to change the Amendment.

spewing facts that are bs lies affecting public opinions
and you think that the NRA and the gun lobbies are not doing the same?
this year there 29 mass killings and of those 22 were shootings.
Even if we accept this definition is true- are you content that there is one every two weeks on average?!?
if the same happened in the UK per head of population we would have had between four and five mass shootings this year. How many have we had?
Answer- none since 2010, three since 1987
By: RpR - 6th December 2015 at 21:40
Oh, well that’s OK then. Good idea actually, to eliminate the problem by re-defining the term “mass shooting” I suggest we go further, and stop plane crashes by calling them “Unintentional Landings” instead.
Hmmm, the article says nothing about stopping anything, other than , journalists and government official spewing facts that are bs lies affecting public opinions, and actions.
From just what did you derive the opinion you stated was the purpose?

In theory that makes all the sense in the world, seem from over here, but in practice, over there…..? I wonder….What I am clear about is that it is their job to resolve not ours.

The right to own a gun in the USA is very much aligned to the fact that it’s still effectively a young country. Therefore the need to have a gun is still see as a necessity in many parts of the country. As a part of that people are scared of the government coming to take their weapons away . Therefore whenever anything is done to curb ownership there is a spike in gun
purchases.
In the long run there need to be stronger legislation on assault weapons – an understanding from both sides of the lobby that people are not ever going to feel safe and therefore responsible gun ownership is the only way forward. So many children shouldn’t be killing by accident with careless gun ownership .
Nothing will ever take gun ownership away in the USA – however there needs to be far more examination not of your rights to own but rather your reasonings .

I imagine if it were that easy it would have been done long ago. Just as few Americans comprehend the complexities of our parliamentary system, so do very few of us understand the complexities of the US Presidential/Congressional system.

Mass shootings: The attack in San Bernardino was the 353rd mass shooting this year. A mass shooting is defined as a single shooting, which kills or injures four or more people, including the assailant.
Source: Mass Shooting Tracker
Gee golly, yesterday I said you were quoting information that could be wrong and today, the USA Today newspaper that is seen as being more liberal than conservative has an article that says that the definition of “mass shooting … used sloppily and interchangably. The result: a very confused and possibly hyperventilating Public:
It states, as reported, by some, the latest was one of 300 in a near daily epidemic but in reality, this year there 29 mass killings and of those 22 were shootings.
It ends by saying mass killings have not increased since 2006.

I assume this comment was intended to be ironic?
If not, have you heard the quaint expression about pots and kettles?
Hmmm, I live where I see and hear what drives our society as a whole, regional and local every day and I give the opinion of a statement made by my president as stated by journalist professionals quoting political professionals — ah no this is as far from ironic as it can get.
You are made a silly statement based on an ignorant bias and I used what professional journalists and politicians said.– as I said you are a bit pixilated.
