Hello All,
Well I’ve decide to write this open letter because of things that have happen over the past couple of days on both the Flypast and Wix Forum.
I have received many e-mails from various people from the Flypast Forum asking me to return and I’ve also received e-mails asking if Cees and I are at War with each other over some sort of Crash recovery.
So let me address the whole Cees thing. I’ve never have had the opportunity to meet or talk with Cees, with that said I have NO problem with Cees on the contrast Cees I respected everything you have been able to do and you might not believe it but I support your views on missing aircrew and the UK Stupid policies. I really mean it when I say I hope you get the Halifax out and I look forward in reading it on your website. Maybe sometime in the Future I could join you in the Mud and Muck to help you do a recovery. It would be my Honor to say I was their when Cees and gang pulled out whatever.
Now I would like to address some items that are perceived by Old Time Forum members on both boards.
The whole Maine Snowball Militia thing, A little back ground for the Flypast group. The Whole thing started on the old board before Scott change to the new Software. Their was a thread that Ollie started and I made a comment about how much snow Quebec receives and Scott comes back talking about how I should talk. You all have to understand when this thread was going on the Greater Boston Area was receiving some of the worst Snow Storms in years and Scott says that every time he hits the Maine/New Hampshire Border it starts Snowing and that I have let loss the Snowball Militia on Mass. Well as you can guess this lead to some fun had by all. After the thread died down out of nowhere come Mr. John Parker with this whole Snowball Arms photos well yes it stuck and yes I kept it. First let me State that I do not condone any form shape the on going Militia problems we have here in the States. I’m sorry if some of you don’t get the inside joke but I don’t get the whole Pommy thing either.
As for some people posting too much over on the Wix Board well guys I don’t see anyone starting any of the threads I see over on the Flypast forum. I look forward to the Photo Contest that Mark12 and Papa Lima and other on Flypast put up. Does this mean that Wix should be a Flypast Clone No but it would be nice to see some of these things. Now yes I respond to a good number of threads but I don’t see you Old Timers complaining about Flypast Guys who post Stuff. Could this be you just Don’t Like Me.
Now For the whole US Navy thing.
For those who don’t know On the Weekend of Nov.18-20 2004 there will be the first ever Navy/Warbird meeting to try to work out are differences How this came about is a thread over on the Wix Board Title Lake Michigan Recoveries. Well to say it got heated is an understatement.. The long and short of it I along with Mike Rawson who is restoring a SB2C/A-25 are heading up this Historic Meeting. Yes guys I’m very passionate about my stance with the Navy but if you read the post you will understand why. Do I go over the top on this subject Yes and No. Yes I can get out of hand with my responses but you must also understand that the US Navy decides to send Naval Investigation Service to question me about something they had No right to do. For all of my Non-Americans Warbird friends who don’t understand that the US Navy Policy is the Single Worst Governmental Policy that affects you then I must tell you talk with Aussie Guys about the items off the Coast it was the US Navy who threaten to send down a Carrier task force and park it over the Dump Site. The Navy ownership claims that a lot of you don’t understand do affect your Country I’ve read and heard so many times that European guys have found an US Navy Plane in the Med. But where told by there respect Governments not to touch or they will have the Raff of the US Navy. That is why I’m so passionate about trying to change the policy.
Everyone we need to take a step back and look at ourselves that includes me especially, to bring in Politics to are hobby is a bad idea right or wrong the United States and its many Allies are at War. I will not tell you my views nor do I care to hear yours because all this leads to is where we are now. Which is people are leaving the respect boards and that’s not good for anyone.
I’ve had a chance over the past few years to meet and talk with many Wix and Flypast members for those who were with us at Genesseo that was one of the Greatest times I’ve had in along time. These are the things I look forward meeting a greeting you guys and get Drunk with Eric, Ryan and Scott I look forward to are next get together. I also look forward to the many photos that everyone puts up. To the guys Down-Under and Across the pond seeing your photos make me double my efforts to visit theses great shows. Have guys like John Parker and Steve Patterson go over and visit helps everyone. As a personal note to John I would like to thank you for all of the phone calls and I look forward to meeting you next year. As for Mr. Patterson, Steve your e-mail to me about the upcoming Navy meeting help put things into perspective and your other e-mail to me about flying the T-6 from the back-seat was not only enlighten but helpful( you fail to mention that I have to come in at sort of an angle for landing Ha Ha).
I would also like to thank the many Forum members who have come forward and help me with contacts for the books. For those who aren’t aware I’m working on two Books one is about the Foreign Operations of Corsairs, a few I would like to single out Tulio from the Wix board, Rob Mears both boards Mark Morrison Both Boards DaveMC2 again both Boards. The other Book I’m working on is on the Early Warbird Owners and Operators, this book I’ve receive so many e-mails on contact I find it hard to single out anyone but three people I need to say a big thank you to are Mark12, D1ck Phillips(for Connie Edwards) Paul Coggan (Mr.Warbirds himself) all members of both boards with out these three gentlemen I would have No contacts for a lot of the English and Aussie owners.
In closing I would like to say that if I have offend or Rub someone the wrong way with my Yank style I’m truly sorry and if you would like I have a request if you would like to have a nice chat then please e-mail me at b25j@maine.rr.com your Telp.# and the best time to call and I will spend the Dime to have the talk.
Sincerely Your Humble Servant

This has to be my favourite thread of the backlog I’m currently working through.
Good news and a sorting out of differences by grown-ups. Great 🙂

Mark, As soon as I can get the Navy guys to let up on some of their CRAZY ideas then you will be the first person along with Mr.Mears to be contact to go grab a Corsair or two, Mark you do know that I have locations of around 25 Corsairs in the US alone. 😮 😀

Good on ya, Rob…let’s go dig up a Corsair somewhere!
Tell those Navy pricks who like to swoop in on any recovered Navy bird and claim it as ‘theirs’ after forgetting about it for 60 years to go schtoink themselves!
Welcome back, holmes.

As you can guess I’ve put alot of pressure on myself to make this thing go off with out any major Hitchs and if I don’t post or don’t get back to someone e-mail please don’t take it the wrong way. 😎
As for the Books I hope to have the Corsair Book done by late next Summer. Right now I’n waiting on stuff from Central America. now the other Book you can just imagian all the back ground research I’ve been doing. it has been suggest that I write some of the storys that I have gather. I will sit down and go thru many of the stuff I have and try to come up with somethings over the winter.
Once again thanks for the support and I hope to make it back to the other side of the Pond sometime soon. 😮 😀

We’re a Community!
A gutsy post Rob, and the reaction of the posts above speak for themselves. Keep on posting – this forum has really taken off with so many different personalities involved in equally different fields, as Steve has said. We’ve got a real community here that was hard to come by in the old days, so stay with us 😉
BTW, I really like the respect shown by all to WRG

Crazymainer, for what it’s worth I enjoy a lot of the debate that goes on here. It shows people care about their subject matter. God help the warbird movement when that situation stops! Okay, we have to draw the line when it gets personal, but I’d like to think we’re all adult enough to be able to back away when we have to. The bottom line is that we’re all here for the same reason. And every day I log on, I feel I learn something more from someone on here, whether it’s a deep insight into the problems of salvaging aeroplanes from the back of beyond, or someone posting a photo of a familiar aeroplane taken from a different angle. That’s the beauty of this forum, and also of WIX; they really are both places of learning. That’s why I stay, and that’s also why I hope you stay too. There’s room here for all of us.

Just a minor little rant here though ……
Stormbird will you knock off using so many icons in your messages please!? MAkes it hard to read at times..

Welcome back.
And you might find life easier if you think before hitting the ‘post’ key… “Am I going to be deleting that in 2 days?” Frankly, by taking your posts out of Philip’s thread on the British Heritage thread, we lost a lot of good stuff, as well as the hot water bits. All inputs are welcome, and up for debate.
Cheers!

It would be a boring old world if everyone agreed now, wouldn’t it? 😉
I’d agree with that 🙂

Hi Colonel Crazymainer Rob,
I have not been privy to all that has gone on in these forums it seems, as regards to any biffo that has taken place, but I for one would like to see you continue to be part of the Flypast Forum community. After all, you seem to be a leading light in the worldwide warbirds scene, you usually have great information to share, and who else here has flown both the B17 and B24 (and is not over 80?).
One thing that I have to ask, that was a massive letter and hardly a spelling mistake. Is that really the Crazymainer we know and love? 🙂 😉
Keep on posting, and sock it to em Navy guys,
All the best
Dave
PS – the books sound really fascinating. Good luck with them.
