They were for The real macoys flying jacket ads from memory.
Another advert was for a drink company and involved dave gilmours and anders Mustangs
Yet another was for a tobbaco company which used old crow complete with cordite streaks and the words Major Mark Hanna on the canopy rail.

I thought the BBD markings were applied for a TV advert. I liked the Empire of the sun markings. Why were there 2 different types of art on the rudder & why there and not on the nose?

I think the FIRST incarnation of the BBD scheme was temporary, but not a bodge – it looked very good close up. I have (somewhere) some lovely pics taken close up in bright sun of the BBD and kills at that year’s Flying Legends. Never published as that was the year of Hoof’s accident in the P-38. RIP. 🙁

Big Beautiful Doll
I remember seeing G-HAEC stuck in a pot hole at Biggin Hill in 1986, being rescued by a large crane! (Lofty to the rescue, Bob). Photos, as usual, curently in a container in the UK!
I seem to remember from Flypast that having put the aircraft into its original RAAF silver (which looked magnificent) that the Big Beautiful Doll scheme was applied for a Duxford display as a temporary scheme, using painted Fablon “sticky back plastic”. I may be wrong!

Another one from the good old days. Fascinating looking through my old photo albums to dig these out – I must post up some more one day soon. I find it hard to believe that I took this almost 20 years ago 🙁
Hi Mike
Yes, having been lucky enough to have seen the Mike J photo albums–well some of them, you should post them.
You will all be amazed what they contain.
You could start with stuff from a certain film made in 1989.
Cheers
Andy 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂

Hi all
Here are some nice shots of the Scandanavian flight machine as discussed on this thread from the Warbirdz.net site here in Aus posted on that site by photographer D StSanvien at Berlin Schoenfeld in 1993.
I have authorisation from the site moderator to use the shots for posting purposes but the shots are still the copyright material of the photographer.

Kindest regards

Yes i would like a larger avatar.
The RAF scheme is actually the Scandinavian Historic Flights P-51 when it wore 19 Sqn markings in about 1993.

Ah-haaaa! (Alan Partridge stylee). Great pix. “Missy Wong…” has a different lady lounging on the rudder in the John Rigby pix (Warbirds Worldwide Number 5 – found it!).

P. S. Like the Black Knight colors. Would you have a larger version of your Avatar available?
By: Black Knight - 8th September 2004 at 17:56
Thanks all, any more photo’s especially of the Missy Wong scheme?
By: T J Johansen - 8th September 2004 at 17:56
This is G-HAEC in some of the previous colors.

If the RAF color scheme you guys mention is this one from 1993, then the plane in question is N167F.

Yes, following it’s overhaul at Duxford it emerged in silver RAAF markings before taking up it’s BBD markings for Legends 96.

I thought it was Old Crow in the RAF scheme at Mildenhall. When origionally imported it was in a camo Australian scheme. G-HAEC was also spotted briefly in Saving Private Ryan.
You could be right about ‘Old Crow’, Yak 11 Fan – OFMC operated their’s for a while I believe, whilst their own was sick. Do you remember that the same OFMC display at Mildenhall had a fantastic Spitfire duo routine in the middle – the like of which I’ve never seen since unfortunately.
I’m sure G-HAEC was all silver for a short time too, with RAAF markings (similar to SEAC roundels if the grey matter is working correctly), looking forward to JDK’s pix just to prove my sanity!

Yep, that’s the scheme I was thinking of.
