[
, personally I could pour a can of petrol over Harry Hill, he is one step down on the ladder from Timmy Mallet, but the public love him, so what do I know, he should have used his talented profession as a doctor rather than make pathetic, childish comments on home movies, but I’m obviously wrong, but we all have our own opinions that don’t relate to anyone elses, we have to appreciate that and accept what is thrown at us, including these two sad pillocks.[/QUOTE]

Timmy Mallet isnt seen on TV these days, Harry Hill may not be everyones cup of tea but he is funny and witty without having to resort to Sexual innuendo/Toilet Humour and the “F” word.
He is On ITV who would have responded much quicker to a similar R/B incident than did the BBC with its “Ten Daygate”scenario, clearly ITV has more regard for its advertisment paying customers than the BBC has for its license paying viewership ie you and me its time there was a radical change at BBC Trust HQ at least get rid of Mr Thompson (as ive already mentioned )before this broadcasting organisation is hit by yet another “breach of policy” one has to broach the question whos the fool here ?

Where do you start, everyone’s perception of a good TV/Radio personality is different, the BBC have had to juggle with this problem as they have done for many years.
Remember the Goons, did Mr and Mrs Average like them, I doubt it, but they are considered the immortals of broadcasting. Then we can follow it up with Monty Python, same thing, I used to cringe when my parents were around to watch it, but they are considered the all time classic greats, no matter what anyone thought of them at the time, believe me, according to the ones that count, whoever they were, they were considered the business.
Programmers have to present those on the edge and accept what outrages that they do, if Ross and Brand, former doyens of the BBC, for whatever reason, were considered to be allowed to do what they wanted, thats the BBC’s problem, not Ross and Brands, it was a recorded programme, they have obviously been given free range and encouragement to do what they want, fair enough, if they want to extend their juvenile pranks, they must have been given the opportunity to do so. Mail readers may think it’s naff along with a large majority of the population, but did they actually hear it, or care if they did.
Personally, I think that Wossy is very talented, but needs control, I will miss him for the next few months, even though he can be a pain in the backside sometimes. As for Brand, personally I think he’s a pathetic, juvenile, junky t####r, but he obviously is related to by certain people so he deserves his place in whatever he does, his TV programme is assured so thats all right then, no doubt he will profit from this small, but interesting contretemps.
It’s hard to judge who we love and who we don’t, personally I could pour a can of petrol over Harry Hill, he is one step down on the ladder from Timmy Mallet, but the public love him, so what do I know, he should have used his talented profession as a doctor rather than make pathetic, childish comments on home movies, but I’m obviously wrong, but we all have our own opinions that don’t relate to anyone elses, we have to appreciate that and accept what is thrown at us, including these two sad pillocks.

Well I agree with a lot of what you say, but how is it jumping on the bandwagon, how can people be expected to judge the episode before they have heard it, as for just turning off, do you think these people should have carte blanche to do whatever they want on the basis that people can just turn off if they want to?

Obviously no one can make a judgement before they have heard the broadcast, but what concerns me is how many of those complaining after the newspaper report are offended by the ‘prank call’ itself or merly thinking oh great i can join in because i hate RB/JR.
If i see/hear something i dont like i complain then and there i don’t join in with a complaint on something i didn’t witness a week later because of something i read in a newspaper, even if it is about someone i don’t like.
Let me be clear i like RB/JR ,i think they are funny guy’s. I also think that this ‘prank call’ got out of hand and shouldn’t have been broadcast.I can imagine there is a great deal of so called offensive material on the BBC that hasn’t been approved for transmission and it is a shame that this one wasn’t stopped by someone [legal dept at least] but i think the resultant outcry is greater than is necessary for what happened.
From what i have seen and heard from Mr Sachs recently I would think that a sincere apology from RB/JR would have sufficed him. His grand daughter i fear has another agenda.
I like the comedic stylings of messers RB/JR but i think even if i and 10.000 others complained to the BBC about their over the top treatment they still wouldn’t be allowed back on air.
As i said it smacks of a witch hunt.
Now even as i write this i relise that i too have given this subject more attention than it really deserves so i shall now bow out of this debate for good.:);):D

It’s the jumping on the bandwagon of outrage after the fact that seems IMHO to be ………..SHEEPLIKE!

Never felt annoyed about something you’ve read in a paper? Maybe the “Sheep” are those ignorant, brainless ones who think they are entitled to do whatever amuses them (if no one else) and to hell with the consequences or the effect on anyone else. Remember, Brand did something broadly similar over Rod Stewart’s daughter and was then forced to back down. To do that kind of thing not once but twice is not “edgey” it’s just plain stupid. And yet in a way I think Ross has come out of this looking the most pathetic. In that video clip you can almost hear him saying to his trendy young friend “Go on, Wussel. Say somefing weally naughty” I wonder if he’d find it so funny if, in a few years time, someone went on radio or TV revealing his daughter’s sex life?

OK, Who is for Emailing Auntie Beeb to ask for a rebate on out licences?, They have saved a million not paying Wossy for 12 weeks and i am sure they will replace his TV shows with repeats so thats no extra cost to them.

Clearly the BBC acts when people complain so if we start this now we can all get a rebate:rolleyes:.

I worry now that the BBC will be scared off any slightly Risque things and will just concentrate on reality TV and other such crap, Just because 2 overpaid stars could not see what they were doing was sick and totally unfunny, I think it all has gone too far.

What i think is that it was a joke that went to far, just as the backlash has done.As i said if Mr Sachs and his grand daughter want to be offended that is their perogative but anyone else would be better off not listing to the broadcast in the first place ie: use their ultimate choice turn the radio over/off.Anyone who listens to or watches RB/JR will know how close to the edge of humour, stupidity and crasness they can get. It’s the jumping on the bandwagon of outrage after the fact that seems IMHO to be ………..SHEEPLIKE!
And again IMHO the grandaughter seems to be exploiting all the publicity from her liason with RB she can. Judging by what i have seen of her career she needs all the help she can get.I just think it is more about a witch hunt against RB/JR than it is about offending an old man and his grand daughter.

Just to clarify, you think that as people didn’t hear the broadcast as it went out, then they should not find leaving offensive messages on an elderly man’s answer phone offensive, or do you feel that leaving lewd and insulting messages about peoples grandchildren is a legitimate form of entertainment?

What a load of hoo ha over nothing. When the show aired only two people complained, then Suddenly after a newspaper report 10,000 come forward!.
Amazing,
Ross get’s 3 million listners so not a great %. . I think it would have been more offensive if Brand hadn’t sleot with the grand daughter!;)

Leave it be there are far more important things going on in the world.

As others have already remarked, Brand is un-funny and Ross smug and a rather sad “act” in my humble opinion. I find Ross’ £18 million fee utterly obscence. The sooner he is dumped the better. How in Gods name can he be worth that to the BBC? What nobody has picked up on, as far as I know, are his regular comments on Radio 2 on Saturdays. I have had the misfortune to hear a few recent broadcasts. Most breathtaking was his comment about drink driving when he said that “just one little drink can’t hurt, can it?” and then went on to say how that “one drink makes your driving better!” How the hell could he have got away saying something like that? Somehow he did, and yet it was just sick and seriously un-funny. So, if he gets his come-uppance now then good riddance to some seriously over-priced and smelly dross, I say. A twelve week ban is…ooooh….about 50 years too short, I’d say.
