dark light

Sad isn't it…

I can remember when the UK could build almost anything the country needed, one used to be nuclear power stations, but that sadly is beyond us, as we now have to outsource to France and China.

The engineers, scientists & construction workers who use to build them for us are gone, and the expertise and know-how they had are lost to us, the only option left then is to shop abroad.

The government says it’s too expensive, but they can find money for the HS2, which nobody wants, the money for which would pay for another 2 NPP’s!

Here’s the reason why…

It takes a special kind of stupid to think that ISIS couldn’t come up with a more effective way of infiltrating the UK.

If that’s not a personal attack, then you tell me that is.

Bruggen 130

There are mindsets at play here. These mindsets tolerate no alleged expressions of alarm against the presence of migrants/refugees and the social disturbances brought about by their excessive numbers and the possibility of an increase in the threat of terrorist attack. The intent is to close down discussion and the expression of any opinion contrary to that of the mindset of the protestor.

I understood that the imperative for HS2 originated with the EU and their desire for an integrated and connected EU wide rail system.

Alan, Whats wrong with the adding more caridges to the existing trains to carry more passengers?. Also, we don’t need dedicated lines to cater for frieght, let them use the same lines as the passenger lines, just fit the frieght trains inbetween the passenger trains, it realy is a no brainer, as this is how it’s been for years, and it works.
I may be wrong, but the HS2 wouldn’t go into the heart of London, but stop on the outskirts, leaving the rail passengers to have to travel on the underground to get to work in the City. So what they MAY gain by using HS” they would in essence lose time they had saved on HS2 be having to lose that saved time by having to use the underground.
Just another of this Countries White Elephants to add to the pile.

When I worked for O2 the government was very nervous with them taking on a mobile contract with a Chinese company.
They were concerned that China would `farm` account information for their own purposes.
Seems need is outstripping that fear.

I don’t understand why we don’t build our own reactors other than we don’t have the skill, or more scarily we are too expensive.
Not comfortable with the idea our reactors went to the cheepest bidder.

As for ISIS infiltrating the UK they do it every day via the intranet. Attacks come from within.

I was listening to phone in programme the other day, and a chap who works on the railways put another point
forward about the HS2 proposals.
He was saying that it’s not just about saving time on rail journeys, that being only one of the plus points.
It was more about increasing capacity of the number of trains on the lines. With more passengers on the new line,
it will allow more freight to be carried on existing lines. The way he explained it, was far more convincing than any of
the arguments put forward by numerous politicians.

Woah! Now I know that Moggy can more than look after himself here, and that he and I rarely see eye-to-eye politically, but really.. That’s a bit harsh, and you must be able to see that your post was a touch nonsensical, on reflection?

And your basis for that sweeping statement is?

Moggy

If I may butt in here Moggy, it’s accepted that the HS 2 will only shave a few minutes off the journey. Nothing about Rail travel in this Country has changed much over the last 60 yrs. When I was an apprentice on B.R. I had to travel from Peterborough North, to Kings Cross, there on a Monday and back on the Friday, I was lucky enough to travel on the footplate, however, it took, none stop, 55 minutes, today, it takes about the same time by diesel, so nothing much has changed. So why waste money on HS2?, and exactly who will benefit from it should it be built.

Like cars you mean ? The majority of us now drive around in foreign made vehicles.
With most of the British brands owned by foreign companies.

What government policies brought about an end to the UK auto, motorcycle, and prime contractor aircraft industries (though they do well in the lucrative subcontract fields).
Other Euro nations seem to be doing well in cars and aerospace so I don’t think it’s a case of Asian superiority.

But 60 years after a number of bad decisions that crippled those industries many seem to want to continue or return to those failed ideologies and programs.

Yep. The sad part is there is just as much British talent and skill ‘out there’. But precious little is harnessed to the UK economy.

You have no idea how angry that bigoted and wholly unfair suggestion makes me.

It takes a special kind of stupid to think that ISIS couldn’t come up with a more effective way of infiltrating the UK than one that risks losing a good proportion of their jihadi enroute.

Moggy

That’s because you don’t live in the real world and can not see what’s going on around you, and don’t call me stupid, BTW I don’t care how angry that make you, your just a mod on a forum site not some sort of higher being, and it takes a special kind of idiot to think that they are any thing else.

None of these refugees is a nuclear physicist then?

No but I bet most of them can strip an AK-47 and put it back together again in under 40 seconds. 🙂

Hi Moggy

Same as most people, the Daily Rag’s, TV and the Web, here’s just a few that turn up on Google…

https://www.google.co.uk/?gfe_rd=cr&ei=hNLMVJ-rKvSq8weq_YKABA&gws_rd=ssl#q=HS2%2BDO%2BPEOPLE%2BWANT%2BIT%2BNUMBERS

I think the Stage I from London to Birmingham does not go down well up country, but Stage II, especially if it was built first would be better received, so perhaps my statement was a little ambiguous…

Apologies to all.

Stu.
