Schneider Racing Aircraft, Some Pics

There have been several threads on this topic afore. Here’s my pic of the Macchi’s engine as illustrated in this: http://forum.airforces.info/showthread.php?s=&threadid=21206 thread.

I think one of the Macchis still survives somewhere, or it is a very convincing replica :confused:

Would anyone know how the engines in the Macchi are coupled together? Or how they managed to start the beast?

Its very, very impressive. I wonder if this tandem motor set up would work in a Reno air racer?

The Macchi must have been a beast to hear with all of those longitudinal cylinders !!

I agree with Allan, I wonder how they were to fly. I would reckon the torque would be negligible due to the contra-rotating props but with that small wing would probably wing-stall at the drop of a hat.. 😮

Heres what I could find 😀 , Could not get new shots from Italy, No links working I could find 🙁 , And a few other shots of winners and grinners, And a famous the Lady Lucy Houston, Who gave 100,000 pounds to the cause 😮 , Also Adjudant Francesco Agello, Oct 23 1933 all time piston engine sea plane record 442mph(709km/h), Not beaten till Aug 7 1961 by Russian Nicolai Andrievskin in a Beriev Be-10 jet seaplane at 547mph, Threw in the Dart aswell, Cheers, Tally Ho!
