Well the Corsair ‘group’, tongue in cheek, just reminded me of my scrap yard sorties and recoveries of yesteryear. 🙂

The oblique reference to the Seafire SX336 at ’06 Legends in ‘Old Eagles’ post, was the fruits of one such recovery.

My subsequent post/image seems to have been deleted or moved without the customary courtesy of an explanation. 🙂

Three Ju-88s and a Do-17 at Utti airbase in Finland in Summer 1953. These airplanes were scraped during the same year.

Argh, that hurts! An airworthy Ju-88 or Do-17 would be something :rolleyes:

didn’t I see on Tomorrows World many moons ago that they built a wave machine in a lake to enable surfing in Arizona? 😉

Arizona is prettty much all “beach”, you’l wait a bloody age for the tide to come in tho…

Assuming that it was at Davis Monthan, just how far away is the nearest beach?… :confused:

Having seen the state that the Argentinian example is in ( actually quite good :p ) It would be great to see a decent example appear from the ground!

Unfortunately in the last few years it has become evident here in Ireland that there have been several cases where old peoples homes havent been much better than morgues for the poor devils living there !!

Thanks for the feedback on the Henley dig folks ..could be interesting!

We had a case here a while back where some guy was clearing his back garden and come across the fuselage frames of some Hawker byplanes that had served with the IAAC in the 30’s & 40’s….imagine that ….not exactly fairies at the bottom of the garden but ruddy heck 😮 !

There is a small notice in the news section of one of the main UK Mags this month… Either the one associated with this site or the ‘other one’. Supposed to be an RAF organised dig on the site of the old dump looking for Spitfire, Hurricane and Lincoln bits in August this year..

What is the difference between a scrapyard and a museum… and visa-versa?

To be a museum the airframe must have a dusty sign in front of it explaining what it is 😀
