Just thought I would ‘Bump’ this thread up, I have to say this has been the most interesting, civil, thread I have seen on the Flypast Forum! well done!

Nose? It is a whole fuselage.

I was actually photographing the ‘wild thistle’. 🙂

There was an airworthy ‘Cat’ adjacent.

I know that in the 90’s the scrap yard on the A41 just outside Bicester had a Sea Vixen wing piled high up on some scrap. I did ask about it and all I really gleaned was that apparently the cockpit had been saved by “someone” but that is all I know…

Not to keep bringing up an old thread, but while talking to my dad, he was stationed at Upper Heyford from 1975-1978. He told me while living in Bicester, that at one time it was a large dump for Luftwaffe wrecks. Base Commander expressed that no military was allowed to keep anything from the old scrapyard, however one of the locals that worked on base with my dad, had a piece of prop with a bullet hole in it.

Does anybody have any pics of any scrapyards near or in Bicester, post WWII? 😎

well, the Phantom was there in April 2004

Wasn’t aware of a Phantom on display there in the past. The Canberra and Javelin were scrapped with possibly the Canberra cockpit only being saved.

I crossed the field a fortnight ago for a three days stay ( I live in France), had a pint of Spitfire beer at the’ Joly Farmer’, local pub and noticed that the Javelin, Canberra and Phantom, had disapeared from the Museum parking. What happened to them.?

I believe some were built in Canada.

The “aircraft” at Balado Bridge / Minalthort in many cases may only have been wings, certainly there were some Firebrand wings.
Scotlandwell was not associated in any way with these relics but of course there a Buccaneer front fuselage being retored there.

I have a list of the contents but I doubt if when I visited in 1964 that they existed.

That intruiges me – not many Cornells made it to the UK IIRC, and a ‘local’ one sound interesting!

I wonder if the glider field at Scotlandwell has any interesting bits lying around!
