Not really a scrap yard, but here are some shots taken a year or so back of the Sandtoft B-25, Lincoln/Lancaster parts.
It’s a crying shame they’re in such condition. 🙁

Not sure whether i posted a pic of our Mossie canopy recovered from Reddens scrapyard in Wellingborough a couple of years ago – if I didnt – here it is….used to be a treasure trove of bits – wellington mossie, vamp, varsity amongst others – all ex Brooklands/Sywell – he even had a submarine conning tower for a while!!!

There are bits still to be found but the site has been cleared quite recently – put MWPS on to a pair of wimpey mainwheels there and I think Mark went and recovered them. lots of vamp bag tanks too.

Dead Phantoms

The link posted by Thunderbird167 has solved a puzzle that’s had me thinking for around 15 years. Namely, what on earth was a Phantom fuselage doing on the back of a large flatbed in South Woodham Ferrers around ’91ish.

Now I know. It was on it’s way to Hanningfield to be (sniff) melted down. I guess the driver was lost as I only saw one. Couldn’t believe it when we drove past the local post office and saw that, definitely a double take moment. I hopped out and had a look around until the driver got back, very sad, If only i’d known then where it was going.

Oh well…

im reaching for the tissues that poor lightning does anyone know of that lightning sat in a field near newark right next to the a1 motorway? everytime i see it it gets worse it used to be mint now its covered in graffiti quick somone save it

If you go on search and type in Balderton Lightning you’ll know the answers, basically the owner won’t sell.

A Shackleton at Kinloss and a Seafire wing and u/c at the Museum of Flight at East Fortune both taken I think about mid 1970’s. I wonder what happened to the Seafire bits!!! A number of items pulled up from the sea were donated to the museum but the only bits I can remember seeing in the last 10 years were Beaufighter bits (small).

I never visited Quarrywood but visited Milnathort (Balado Bridge). Lots of parts, a Seafire set of wings a Lighning? simulator, 20 plywood tailplanes (Mosquito) att rotted away. My camera was of very poor quality and the negatives went many years ago.

I have a list of the contents but I doubt if when I visited in 1964 that they existed.

I use to spend my holidays in westgate, a seaside town not far from Manston, and loved going across the airport to see the visiting aircraft, and exibition of a Spitfire, a Javelin and a Canberra. But upon all was intrigued by the dump, where were Vulcans, Varsities…Has anyone got phototographs of this dump?

No pics, but I used to walk around the fire dump at Manston, wandering among Vulcans, one of which had it’s nose gear in a hole to simulate a collapse, there was a shackleton laying there half burned, lightnings, victors and a smashing smashed viscount among many other delights.

One day however it all they sent the landrover out to escort me off the premises, but in the years leading up to that you just wandered past the RAF chaps playing football and helped yourself. Happy days!

Probably, simultaneously, the most depressing and most intriguing thread I’ve seen on any of the fora…

No way of posting them as yet, but I’ve a few shots of three very incomplete CF-100 Mk.5 fuselage hulks in a scrapyard in Barrie, Ontario, in winter 1982-83. One of the three (18775) is now in Walter Soplata’s collection in Ohio.

An eon ago on this thread there were several fairly recent pix posted showing parts of two or maybe three ex-Indian AF Tempest IIs in the UK; shortly afterward came another post indicating these components had vanished. Is there any newer info about these Tempest parts? Would hate to think they might have got the chop at so late a date… 🙁

Thought you all might be interested to see this shot taken at Kemble in February 1971 just after Red Arrows Gnats XR986 & XR545 were involved in a fatal mid-air collision on 20th January 1971.
