Some Hispano Buchon/Bf109 images

Had a browse of Airliners.net for some new photos, and found a couple of Buchon shots.

Anyone know which aircraft these are? Or have any more info on them?

The blurb says: “At Earl Reinert’s Victory Air Museum, One of five HA-1112 at the Museum, all had been used in the film “Battle of Britain””

I’ve never heard of “Earl Reinert’s Victory Air Museum” before

An excellent thread. Mark Hanna gave a very interesting interview on the Duxford 98 video during which he mentioned, IIRC, that they (OFMC?) had terrible trouble operating Hans Dittes 109 (with the long tailwheel) due to the unreliability of the engine. Mark said that the engine installed was made from components from many individual engines – my inferrence from this coment is that it had not really done wonders for the reliability of the powerplant.

Having said that, perhaps piston engines constructed using components from other powerplants is relatively common today.

Any sooties care to comment?

This tread brings back nice memories. Thanks for posting guys. It is great to recall the Black6/OFMC messerschmitt duo from 1995. That was a historic chance to see two DB aircrafts together.

And you don’t need to appologize Archer. Any pic of Black 6 is worth posting to this board.

Thanks,
J.V.

As for the real thing, the best I’ve got is this shot taken during landing at La Ferte. Sad really as I was airside the whole weekend and should’ve taken a lot more photos of it!

Found this one in my photo collection recently, taken at La Ferte in 1993. The second shot is Zoersel in 1991, can anyone verify if its the same Buchon?

Good pics and interesting posts Gents 😀 I wondered why the 109s landing gear was not changed during the War to wide track like the 190  , Willy must have been way to busy I guess :p , Would have saved a lot of 109s from self destruction  , GOOD to see some D.B.s aswell Guys, The 109s look great with the engine they were designed for 🙂 ,(Sorry Daz), And I have yet to see any of the Jumo Mules posted  , Cheers, Tally Ho! 😉 Phil :diablo: (p.s. heres some pics to enjoy 😉 )

It’s a bigger fin and rudder to counter the torque of a more powerful engine.

It was made out of wood, was it not? Or was that the tailplane?

Youre right, I remember now that part of the debate was why they waited so long after being confronted with types like the p51 and p47 that really made a difference.

It was once reported that 25% of all casualties with me 109 was in t/o and landing acidents.. so the longer tailwheel leg was finally introduced.

But why not ever they put on an retractable wheel?

Hmmm, the “K”s finally got them.

So what’s the reason for the horrible fin profile on the aircraft nearest the camera? Performance improvement or ease of manufacture?
