I thought I recalled the serial and I was right, its listed as a “survivor” in the book “Spitfires and Polished Metal”, this is the entry…

This is a dig recovery item from Dilip Sarkar.
Dilip disposed of some of his collection quite recently to a dealer, as he has a perfect right so to do.
I personally would not include this in my list of surviving Spitfires at this time. That said there is no question that if we are to continue the Spitfire building industry at the same rate as today, choice dig material items such as this will start to come on stream to provide the thin provenance thread we have discussed here in the past.
Not all will agree with this. Some will have a vested interest in maintaining the current level of flying Spitfires at present levels or lower. For me if there is total transparency and no intent to defraud – I applaud it.
‘Spitfires and Polished Metal’ – Hmmm, all those quoted Spitfire construction number details gathered over 30 years and not even an acknowledgement. 😡 Ask for a copy of a photograph from one of the authors and it comes with ‘Copyright blah blah blah’ written large down the spine of the fuselage on the FRONT face!!
