How do you work that out? he was a professional, and a superbly gifted one at that, he hardly diced with death because he knew what he was doing and he knew how to handle everything he encountered, if it was you or I eyeballing a croc or a snake etc then fair point, but this chap was different 🙁

Well he did once dangle his one month old son infront of a croc, you call that ‘professional’. Okay he knew what he was doing but there was still that danger, an unpredictable croc or a snake could have had him. If I remember rightly he did a few times get bitten by a snake. So my point even if he knew his crocs, does that give him the right to stand 6 ft away frm them enticing them to jump towards him?

I expected maybe a snake or crockadile but never a stingray.

They say God works in mysterious ways.

Well he was an incredible presenter who always manged to make you laugh and shock you at the same time! everyone always said somethings gonna happen to him everytime he lay his face inches away from whatever dangerous animal he was filiming.

Never thought it would actually happen, very sad news indeed.

RIP Steve Irwin :(.

We know a lot about Steve and his crazy antics,but what do you know about “Stingrays?” See HERE.Seems like they would prefer to run away than have a go back.Maybe Steve took one too many liberties with a wild animal that he was unfamiliar with.Without a doubt,he certainly had a way with all manner of creepy-crawlies on land.It has been reported that,as a child,he would prefere to “play” with the surrounding wildlife than the kids in his neighbourhood.Maybe he went a step too far,trying a change in tack for the TV people buy going into creepy-crawlies in the water.

Very sad news. I always suspected something terrible like this may happen to him one day, but it’s sad someone with such a deep rooted love and respect of all things living is no longer with us. There are far too few people on this planet who share that quality.

What a shock -heard it on the 6 O’clock news this morning.

Sad news indeed as he was a great character (“you’re a bit grumpy today” he’ll say to a snake just inches away that just missed his face!). He must have been swimming pretty close to the stingray to trigger the reflex sting that caught him. Still, he was a lucky man to be doing what he loved for a living.

Only 44 but what a legacy- his love of animals and nature was infectious. We need more people like him in the world.

It’s a shame it was broadcast here and all over the world before his wife and children who were trekking on Cradle Mountain in Tasmania were notified

Sad sad News i am totally shocked, His love of Animals was infectious, He had a passion that is pretty rare in terms of TV Documentary presenters these days. This made him un-missable Television and great entertainment.

I am sure a lot of people have been influenced by his shows and i hope his efforts in conservation and education will carry on.

Its tragic he was lost this way but at least he died doing something he truelly loved.

RIP Steve, My sympathies go out to his family at this time.

Hell be greatly missed .Steve Irwin’s very special brand of presenting both shocked and amazed the viewer.The way he handled his animals with care and respect also his commitment to conservation ,its a sad loss not just to oz but the rest of the world who enjoyed his unique personality.

Condolences go to his wife Terri,daughter Bindi and the staff of his Australia Zoo complex.He died doing what he loved with great passion and zeal.His considerable work in regard to the protection of endangered animals will always be shadowed by his aussie persona on and off screen.A sad day indeed.
