Summer must be here

Spent much of the day on the beach at West Wittering, West Sussex, working; sighted a destroyer coming in from the Channel, several Sea Kings (one RAF, probably running tests from Fleetlands, and at least one other which appeared to be dunking in the same location to the east of the Nab tower for hours!), at least one Navy Lynx (flying along the shore at low level, apparently ogling Sun worshippers!) and at least one Chinook, plus a couple of civvy spams doing tail chases which looked decidedly dog fight-ish. Kite surfers were out in force, beach vollyballers were gamely chasing down the beach after the ball, assisted by the prevailing wind, there were even a few sail boards out.

The Sun was warm – despite the harsh breeze – the sea was cold (what should I expect, it is early June!) and sand got everywhere.

But the back of my neck is tingly – sunburn means summer at last?

Now there is the difference, owners are taught how to let their dogs exercise unlike so many dog owmers, plus as ever the thoughtless stupidity of a minority reflect badly on all dog owners.

I’m not nor ever have been a dog hater, the only reason we don’t have a dog ourselves now is simply when we lost our big, soft, amiable “Lady” we were looking to downsize from the family home, living in a much smaller bungalow is not the best place for a dog.

Assistance/service dogs have to have some down time, be it on the beach or in a park, and owners are taught how to let their dogs exercise off lead…

Bit unfair to all the ‘assistance/service dogs’ that on a daily basis mean that someone with a disability, no matter what their age, can lead some semblance of a normal life….

I said the majority of dogs, plus highly unlikely for assistance/service dogs to be running loose on a beach, I have a neighbour who trains guide dogs for the blind, another who helps out with a charity rehoming ex racing greyhounds, these guys do a damn good job and the dogs which pass through their hands are never a nuisance.

Kids are supposed to be ‘intelligent’ (a term I use advisedly) whereas most dogs are not usually regarded as being able to make decisions and be able to communicate and respond, etc. Whether they do or not doesn’t matter; we are older kids and therefore expect that our offspring will do as we would expect them to – most dogs just run around, chase their tails, etc. Now, what is that disease that comes from dog faeces that causes blindness and is one of the major reasons that dogs are banned from beaches all over Britain?

The beach at West Wittering is privately owned which is probably why they allow dogs on the beach (you know any other beaches which allow dogs on the beach between Easter and October?). We all know that dog owners are renowned for being ignorant of what their mutt is doing when squatting, most quite happy to ignore such little nasty piles and walk away from them without a second glance. An old work colleague was offered violence when she tried to get a dog walker to clear up after his hound – although I imagine the same might/would happen if you did the same to an ignorant parent.
Children won’t be banned from the beach, dogs usually are: you want different try getting your local MP behind it – and good luck with that!

:applause: Amazing– i have 2 children ,well teenagers now who i appreciated when they were younger were not everyones cup of tea so you try and keep them well behaved whilst having fun.Same with dogs BUT there does seem to be double standards on here regarding it’s ok for kids to be running around screaming being a nuisance but dogs oh my god —–i CLEAR UP more dog poo from other peoples dogs because i detest it BUT yes you and Silverfox sum it up–children should have their own areas to play in.

:dev2: And someone elses little darlings screaming –oh and peeing and pooing don’t annoy or are a nuisance either .One persons meat etc.

I guess your meat is dog meat…?

It was a school day. There were hardly any kids around because it was a school day, and those that were were toddlers. Say what you like about toddlers but they are hardly ever in the same league as a dog because everything is, generally, new and exciting to them – whereas a dog bounds around either under the command of its pack leader (its owner), not under control at all, or it is on a lead. And if dog peeing and pooing don’t annoy or are a nuisance to you then you, matey, are in a very small group of (I imagine) one.

Yes, other people’s little darlings can be really rotten, mean, loud and offensive, but on that day there were no kids about – hence why dogs were the nuisance.

Bit unfair to all the ‘assistance/service dogs’ that on a daily basis mean that someone with a disability, no matter what their age, can lead some semblance of a normal life….

But assistance dogs are not likely to be running around being a nuisance on the beach…

You can’t possibly compare dogs with children, if the sound of children having fun annoys you take yourself and your dog elsewhere.

Dogs should not be allowed to run loose in public spaces where children are playing or do play, between peeing and pooping everywhere, they can and do bite, or even a boisterous dog with no evil intent can hurt a child very easily, the majority of dogs serve as much practical purpose as a chocolate teapot, whereas any of those children has the potential to be a nurse or doctor, to fix your car or house, certainly in later life they will be the ones who provide services to you when you’re elderly, your dog won’t.

Before you say it I don’t dislike or hate dogs, just irresponsible owners who think their dog is more than it is.

Uncontrolled as in they are having fun chasing each other barking and generally playing or uncontrolled as in attacking people.Don’t forget children run around chasing, screaming and being a nusience to those who don’t have them or want to hear /see others kids.

Being a nuisance, generally; I watched one cocking its leg on a groyne right next to a mother and her young child – not their dog since there was a man calling it, although he didn’t appear bothered that it might have pee’d on someone else’s towels, etc.
It was a school day so there wasn’t that many kids around.

…a cold larger…

A larger what?

Real ale is the drink of men, and Nigel F.

He also has the traditional leaders mistress (or two?) on the go – can that be blamed on the lager or the real ale?

Well Snafu, that’s killed the Summer off by saying it has arrived :p

Yeah? And I thought it was the weather…;o)

(At least they aren’t talking about Top Gear. Again)
