"The Few" Movie and other new air movies

I reckon you could make a Battle of Britain film pretty well, theres enough Hurricanes out there and Spitfires you could quickly convert to look like mk I’s or II’s like in battle of britain, the cgi would be amazing.

I think what we need is films in the vain of saving private Ryan [well the first twenty minutes any way],that depict acts of aviation history but using stark realism. Then the younger end would realise and appreciate the guts these men had.We have to except the use of vga as the lack of surviving aircraft and the insurances would be astronomical.

dambusters remake

There was an attempt by mel gibson to remake the dambusters about 10 years ago using CGI for the lancs there was an article i think in ‘the sun’ about it at the time and they said it would be a computer generated farce as the story would no doubt be another ‘how the americans won the war single handed’ film etc.

I just hope that hollywood leaves the old war films alone and tries to use it’s money on something new for a change, at least films like reach for the sky would be ok as my american friends do not believe that the RAF had legless pilots (no not in the alcholic sense) in world war 2.

by the way they are making a sequel of the remake of the italian job (god help us), could they eventually make a remake sequel of the dambusters (scary thought) if it got remade ?

At the risk of starting a range war here goes.

I think nearly all aircraft movies made have been positive from a number of perspectives.

1) They expose the paying public to Aviation History and mostly stir interest in it – superficially yes but at least they put it in the public domain.

2) They pump a certain amount of income into the operators of these featured aircraft

3) In some cases they form a catalyst to get extinct types flying again

I don’t think CGI is a complete replacement for real aircraft and never will be – It doesn’t work that well , especially up close and there will always be a need for real aircraft in movies.

We as “Experts” – (has been drips under pressure) all decry the crap aspects of the films – even Pearl Harbour was of interest to the paying public – We all hated the inaccuracies and the rubbish CGI – but the public didn’t notice or care and the result for the movement was positive.

If I hadn’t, I wouldn’t be able to comment. I however didn’t pay for the privilege it was lent by a colleague.

Very little original stuff comes out of the movie world today, you’ve only got to look at the latest trend of re-hashing 1970’s US TV programmes, Starsky & Hutch, Charlies Angels and now the Dukes of Hazard.

The Few has the possibility of being a great film, though there will be the inevitable artistic licence. Snapper has had some contact with the producers, and has commented in the past that he believes the film will be true to the story, and we should not knock it until it is released. So I guess the jury will remain out until then.

As for remaking the Dam Busters, for what reason???? They already mess around with the original for PC reasons. A remake in this PC infested world, would take it further away from the real events.

Why remake films, especially classics, look at what happened to the Italian Job, god awful. It just shows a lack of ideas in the motion film industry when they have to remake an old film.

Don’t blame the movie makers. If people didn’t pay to go and see it, or buy / rent DVDs they would soon stop making them.

I’d prefer to see and hear 12 Mosquito’s flying rather than computer generated graphics.
