The Great US Election Hamster-Wheel Thread (Merged)

Mainland Europe rejoices.

Large defense budget cuts. Big increases in social spending. Nationalized health care. Tax increase providing short term revenue increase, but longer term economic turmoil and increasing unemployment.

International agenda foresaken in favor of a domestic agenda. Allies confused and aggressors emboldened. Israel?

Strategic withdrawal from the Middle East.

I don’t see any way for the F-22, JSF, C-17, C-5 RERP, KC-45, and new UAV’s to all survive.

All just MHO.

Obama plans to bankrupt coal fired power plants and technology.

Isn’t there enough of an energy shortage and economic crisis? Isn’t energy expensive enough?

I find Obama’s and other fascist liberals mentality to be quite paranoid, hateful and delusional. Though there does seem to be some from both sides.

So it’s okay to promote biodiesel which produces greenhouse gases, but the coal industry/infrastructure which is already in place and can produce power cheaper is being attacked.

The fascist liberals already made us more dependent on coal because they made it impossible to get new nuclear power plant licenses. Now they want to eliminate coal. How about finding a cheaper cleaner technology before attacking our industry, our economy and our energy needs?

What next are we supposed to stop breathing until they can genetically alter man to emit less greenhouse gases? If so I suggest liberals/Democrats/fascist lead by example.

The carbon tax will be to go to invest into things like biodiesel that would be more expensive and still produce carbon emissions and increase alleged global warming.

Are there any sane liberals left? Are they all sheeple? The ignorant fascist mob mentality is ridiculous. I suspect grocery stores have a shortage of Kool-Aid and aluminum foil for liberals. 😉

The campaign sent a statement today saying “the point Obama is making is that we need a transition from coal burning power plants built with old technology to plants built with advanced technologies.”

Sorry but that didn’t sound like the point Obama/Biden was making.

Obama is poised win and Democrats are poised to win a super majority jeopardizing the checks and balances. I fear for the fate of America and the world. I suspect there will be much rejoicing when Obama is elected, things might become more unstable there might be some short-term upswing, but I feel the long-term fate of our country is spiraling downward.

Please no US-elections here. When comes it comes to the USA, the energy consumption and the related size of pollution per head are out of justification, when it comes to the well-being of “space-ship” earth, which does travel with Mach 17 around the sun. 😮

To further add to that Frank, I would also like to say ownership of firearms is a right guaranteed to us by the Constitution, that pesky little piece of paper no one seems to read anymore. (I mean Americans, there’s no need for anyone else to understand it, unless you care to move here 🙂 )

Now I know this will come across as strange to most people, even to a lot in the US. But the Constitution (by that I mean the Constitution and the Bill of Rights) was written and designed to protect the life, liberty and pursuit of happiness of the people from a Government gone bad. Actually, it was designed so the Government couldn’t do anything to impede on ones life, but since no one reads it anymore there have been many, many encroachments.

The fact of the matter is, the founding fathers who wrote the Constitution did not trust any form of Government and wanted to limit its powers as much as they could. The 2nd amendment is written into the Bill of Rights specifically, as are the other 9, to guarantee these rights. And as anyone who has studied history knows, an armed populace is a lot harder to make subservient than an unarmed one, and that was the whole point of the 2nd amendment. It wasn’t written so we crazy rednecks can go shootin at tin cans or blow away some rounds, but in order to protect our own personal liberty.

I think the U.S. Constitution allows the right to bear arms for many reasons.

1: For defense of self or others. (law enforcement is often unavailable, indifferent, inept, overwhelmed, under funded and under trained, slow to respond and sometimes corrupt: so individuals should have the right to bear arms) . It also is a deterrent against criminals.

2: An armed public is a deterrent for foreign nations to militarily take and occupy the United States. (I think the UN is incrementally and very insidiously trying to attack and revoke the US right to bear arms, to undermine our Constitution and country and establish a much stronger world government ( a “new world order“)

3: A well armed public; is a deterrent for fascist leadership or an unjust coup attempt. I think if Congress didn’t think the public was armed, that they would be more tyrannical.

4: If the US government was to get too far out of line, (and if all reasonable peaceful methods have been exhausted or deemed unappropriate) private gun ownership gives the public the ability to rebel with significant force on a more level playing field.

5: For hunting: to provide food, clothing, and other raw materials and for money such as bounty, tourism for guided hunts, etc…

6: For sportsmanship. Such as marksmanship, competition shooting, ect… ( I feel that this is also covered in the “declaration of independence” under the “pursuit of happiness” )

——
The founding fathers made many statements that indicated that they supported the individual’s right to bear arms and that was their intention in the Constitution and many of the other documents they wrote up. (Some of these quotes may possibly be falsely attributed to him, but seem to fit his style and reflect my opinion)

Thomas Jefferson

When the government fears the people, there is liberty; When the people fear the government, there is tyranny

Thomas Jefferson

The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government.

I’m proudly clinging to my guns and religion. The politically correct fascists don’t think we should have or exercise our constitutional rights.

So if somebody wants to build a coal-powered plant, they can…. it’s just that it will bankrupt them because they’re going to be charged a huge sum for all that greenhouse gas that’s being emitted

Now, while I’m not a big fan of guns myself, I totally understand the reason for having a weapon (especially the hunting ones) in the US.

I think it is safe to say that, while the alleged motives can be different (political views, “religious” justifications, .. ) all the guys taking a gun and just shooting at others are nutcases.

Now, while I’m not a big fan of guns myself, I totally understand the reason for having a weapon (especially the hunting ones) in the US. For those who don’t know, in opposition to the rather harmless wildlife we have in europe (thanks to centuries of hunting), on the north American continent, you are still susceptible to encounter a bear, a mountain lion, or some other sort of similarly entertaining animal in your neighborhood. Especially if you have woods nearby.

So, it would be nice for people here to put things in perspective before criticizing other’s cultures… What can seem inappropriate in your part of the world might be a necessity somewhere else. That’s the way it goes. (N.B. this comment isn’t directed at anyone).

I’m not sure but I thought it was typically the other way around.

I thought most of the times that conservatives use their guns was for sport, justified self-defense, justified defense of others, or in the defense of their country.

I thought it was typically liberals that went on unjustified rampage shootings after such things as they can’t handle a girl or boy breaking up with them, or they don’t like someone criticizing them for worshiping the devil, etc…

Got their voting records at hand? Otherwise you’re just constructing a debate on your preferred worldview. Which doesn’t really give you much credibility.

Wasn’t Lee Harvey Oswald a socialist/liberal/Democrat/communist/marxist?[/quote]
John Wilkes Booth wasn’t particularly left-wing, on the other hand.

From my experience it is typically liberals that get violent because they cannot handle a civilized political debate.

RememberTimothy McVeigh?

And if that is not ’nuff said for your rosy worldview of responsible gun-toting peace-loving rednecks, maybe this is…
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/7694254.stm

I also thought that most gun crimes were committed by liberals. Such as related to robberies or drugs (and gang related activities like drive-by shootings or revenge killings). I was under the impression that generaly conservatives are more responsible with guns. 😉

Puh-leeze. Either back this up, or put that agitprop back where it came from.

these aren’t typically the type of person to reach for a rifle in most circumstances….

The thing is though, as disliked as Bush may be by much of the liberal US, these aren’t typically the type of person to reach for a rifle in most circumstances….

Fingers crossed nobody does anything stupid and spoils democracy for everyone.

survival?

I live in the southern U.S. for 4 months of the year and unfortunately have met some really waco, red-necked minutemen so I wouldn’t be surprised if one of them had a go at the winning team. Obama for colour or Sarah for gender.

As hated as Bush is, if he can survive, anyone can. The liberals have called him everyname in the book, suggesting all sorts of crimes and conspiracies…
I’m surprised a off-kilter wackjob hasn’t taken a shot at him.

I see the Obama folks stirring this question to help get out the black vote…

Great, now we get comments from schoolboy socialists who have never been to the US (except Disneyworld) and who know the U.S. only what they know of the European media.

Hey. we get equally well-founded insights from the US about the rest of the world as well. We’re only returning the favour (especially those particularly silly schoolboys) 😀

Either it’s schoolboy socialists from Europe, or it’s Kindergarten Capitalists from your side of the pond. Both perfect examples of a certain Bertrand Russell quote.

ehhhh except for Katherine Harris, whom by the way was proven right if I remember correctly, the other two issues you mentioned are hardly a Republican only problem, especially Gerrymandering which helps the incumbent most. Lets not forget a politicians job, Rep or Dem, once elected, is to keep getting reelected. At least thats the way they think, hence is why any talk of term limits is hushed by both parties very quickly.

In respect to voting fraud and IDs, you do know that many states have tried to put in a law that says in order to vote you need to show a picture ID, and its usually quashed as racist or something along those lines. Here in PA, when I go to vote, I tell them my name, show them my voter registration card, and thats it. They check my name against the registration database and Im cleared to vote. Now you may say well their, you have a voters ID. A 10 year old with a computer and scanner could make a copy, its nothing more than a little piece of paper with some typewriter typing on it, and no picture…..see what I am getting at? Register all these voters, print up a bunch of phoney voter refistration cards and away you go.

And also dont forget, after the election, these registrations have a purpose too. Lets say McCain wins by a small margin, in say, PA. All these false registrations could possibly be used to show how Obama supporters were “kept from the polls” etc etc. Mark my words, this will happen if anything remotely doesn’t go the way the Obama Campaign and Media believe it should.

And before you call me a Republican hack, I will admit I am registered Republican but will be changing to Independent due to my complete displeasure of most of the Republicans, including McCain. If the party believes the way is to become more “centrist” or left, well I’ll kindly let myself off the train, I want nothing to do with it. And believe me, more than quite a few people feel this way.

Man, you need to cut back on the medication! Its going to be your undoing…….Accorn efforts are just plain fraud. Even the liberal media can’t deny it. Regardless, spin it anyway you want. They support it and know whats going on………..Let’s take a poor person and give them money to sign somebody up with no supervision. Of course the more names the more money! Then let’s take these same people that are highly supportive of Obama and let them take people of go register. Of course they won’t influence them to vote Obama…….NO THEY WOULDN”T DO THAT! THAT WOULD BE DISHONEST! Just another scam with US Taxpayer Money……..Which, happens to benefit the Democrats and Obama.

So, do we really want to elect leaders to reform Goverment that support such actions! Sounds like Chicago during the Al Capone Era…………………Oh, that’s funny Obama is from Chicago. As a matter of fact he has a house there. Of course I wasn’t making any assumptions. Well, at least no more than the Democrats do with Accorn.:diablo:

With all due respect, Someone from Acorn putting Mickey Mouse on the voters list in Ohio does not mean that Mickey Mouse will be voting in Ohio. There are ID requirements to voting you know. Don’t confuse individual greed and incompetence on the part of an Acord canvasser with voter fraud.

And hearing about election fraud from a Republican is pretty rich…..coming as it is from the party of Katherine Harris, Diebold voting machines and jerrymandering.

The Republicans decided to throw out the wisdom that had been hard-won during the Great Depression and now here we are.

This statement clearly explains to me that you sir have a very narrow view on history let alone economics. The Great Depression was nothing more than an overreaction to a market correction by the people to a degree, but in actuality was used as a reason to “experiment” (FDR’s words, not mine) with central control of the economy. Even the agencies that “worked” under the New Deal did not accomplish the New Deals original intent, to end the depression. The only thing that ended the depression was in fact the war industry, and the fact that a lot of our boys were overseas (not needing domestic jobs at the time). Read up on what many of FDR’s braintrusters said of what they did years afterward, there was a lot of negativity in the lack of accomplishment.

Nice try Cuito but at the end of the wiki entry it shows that only two economist are blaming this bill as the cause and right below it Clinton says he doesn’t believe this was the cause. This is hardly ironclad proof. Greenspan and Cox are doing a mia culpa because they were fooled by liberals who were cooking the books and covering it up. Fannie and Freddie were giving money to people they knew couldn’t afford it and the Clinton Adminstration pressured the other banks to do the same thing or face heavy fines.

Look at the WSJ article closer. She isn’t offering alternatives just a short term deal for a one time swap out that people close to retirement may want.
A congressional commitee called this meeting that means Congress IS looking into this and I’m sure that the congressmen who listened are democrat i’m sorry socialists.
