So it’s no secret that Russia & China have stayed pretty consistent with their different approach to the Iran situation as compared to the EU and the US.
On the face of things, especially in China’s case, they claim it is all economically based. My questions to fellow forum members are twofold:
1. Do you believe what they say or do you think they have other unspoken motives?
2. Do you agree with their apparent lack of action in this situation compared to Western countries? (Just out of curiosity please state what country you are from when you reply. I’m just curious to get an idea of what opinions of people from a variety of countries are.)
EDIT:
3. Do you personally believe the Iranians are trying to develop a nuclear weapons capability?
For the record, and it will come as no surprise to anyone here, I firmly believe that they are working toward that. What say you all?

For the record tornado, I’m not a fan of many of the nations in that region of the world and there is a part of me that wants them to wipe one another out….
With that having been said, kev and I rarely agree, but he does make a solid point. Can we risk the danger of some type of nuclear exchange where nations outside of the ones doing the fighting are affected?
I think the answer is no. I’m not suggesting military action right now, but something has to be done to stop Iran from getting a nuclear weapon. Their government is the epitome of the word unstable, and my fear if they get a weapon is not even that they themselves would use it….it’s who they might give it to that would…

lol !! agree to some degree kev but again is it actualy as bad as people percieve we were in the fall out area from chernobyl and there are little effects ( to some degree pilots get more radiation flying at altitude )
the percieved fear is much exagerated to the reality

tornado.
Are Israel and Turkey prehistoric Nations? How about some of the Baltic States and North Africa? It might not, in some ways, be a bad thing to leave these Nations to wipe each other out as you suggest, but, in the event of these Nations acquiring nuclear capability it becomes a whole different ball game. The ‘joys’ of a nuclear exchange between any two Countries would be spread far and wide courtesy of Mother Nature. You only have to look at the spread of ash and debris from the Icelandic volcano to realise that the radioactive fallout from a nuclear exchange would, depending on the prevailing weather, ensure that such an exchange hurt far more than the protagonists.

3. Do you personally believe the Iranians are trying to develop a nuclear weapons capability?
maybe maybe not !! it isn’t that long ago we were told iraq had multiples of weapons of mass destruction , it has taken ten years to find no proof !!
For the record, and it will come as no surprise to anyone here, I firmly believe that they are working toward that. What say you all?
if they were is it a bad thing ???? so long as they concentrate on wiping out their own prehistoric nations and attitudes and leave the rest of the world out of it does anyone realy care ???

Swoosh, do you think the Iranians are trying to build a bomb? Where are you from?
J-20….where are you from?

Why should China or Russia or India back Anglo grand strategy schemes? Why should they give their support for the U.S. to complete its control over the world’s prime hydrocarbon sources?
Because lack of cooperation on issues like Iran will only aggravate the tensions between the US and China. Sure, Yanks are the opposite of a clear conscience bu you can’t just ignore them. Military agreements between the two countries have to be established

i didn’t see your #3 question but to answer it. it’s pretty obvious they are developing it.
Martin Dempsey referred to Iran as a rational actor, and that much is true. If you were them, surrounded by Arab countries that don’t like you, Israeli countries that don’t like you, and Western forces in bordering nations that don’t like you.. you’d probably do the same to protect yourself through MAD.
it doesn’t mean I agree with Iran’s views, but it means they are doing it to survive. Nukes or no nukes, those countries and Iran dont like each other period.

And does the U.S. e.g. accomodate Russia with the missile defence question? Even Jackson-Vanik is still in place!
@ 3: Of course! Question is just within what time frame. The Persians are the strongest and most able people in their greater region (not so say “theatre”). It’s just a question of time, and an attack will just strengthen their resolve and provide justification. Cause that’s the real lesson of global reality, to achive the holy trinity: Nuclear weapons – energetic autarky – a stable monetary system outside to reach of the Anglo banking scheme.
The West’s philosophical and moral position vis-a-vis Iran is very weak.

J-20? Your home and opinion?

I am more interested in Russia and China’s position on Syria at the moment. As for Iran I think Israel will solve that if they get to close to making a viable nuclear weapon. J-20 Hotdog I think you have summed that up pretty well there. Paul in the UK(Far enough away not to here the bang if it happens!)

China: High energy insecurity bcoz of growing economy that hungers for energy. They need Iran for energy.. Iran needs China to support it internationally
Russia: They have their cake and eat it too. On the one hand they say they support Iran.. on the other hand, they sometimes join western countries against Iran.. and then raise their prices of whatever they are selling (energy facility construction like nukes, etc) afterwards. Iran doesn’t like Russia, but they’re willing to tolerate them because the US is the greater evil, and they whatever ally they can get. Russia and Iran don’t agree on Caspian Sea boundaries either.
