The Last Film You Saw…. 2!!!

Not the last film I watched, but it will be watched for the second time this week….

I’m starting to get more hyped up to see Indy IV, so the best way is to watch the original trilogy (which I hear is to be rereleased in time for the fourth film opening, with even more bonus material!) 😀

Just taken Yasmin out of the player.It’s a story of paranoia,racism and ignorance,centered around a Muslim family living in Bradford around the 9/11 attack on the Twin Towers and it’s effect on a fiesty lass trying to balance her Muslim upbringing and a modern world she sneaks out to and is accepted by.
Then,the secrets she’s kept from friends and family become public and her world starts falling apart.The scene is set for a compelling and topical personal drama of what it means to be Asian,Muslim and British in the 21st century.
Another made-for TV-film by good old Channel 4,never afraid of “taking the bull by the horns”.

Daz, i think we should be having a movie get-together someday. I’ll bring my crappiest zombiestuff, you take yours. Add booze, bad food (crisps, kebab), possibly strippers… sounds pretty good, actually.

Army of Darkness is probably the most fun you can squeeze out of a very, very finite budget. Crappy effects, great dialogue (what else to expect from Mr. Campbell?), insane storyline. What’s not to love?

Very faithful to Joe R Lansdale’s weird and wonderful short story, this film is a real gem. The gist of the story is that Elvis (Bruce Campbell) didn’t die (it was an impersonator he swapped places with who popped his clogs),and is spending the rest of his days in a Texas rest home, with a busted hip and a growth on the end of his pecker,and he’s none to happy. That is until a soul sucking mummy turns up at the rest home and Elvis is forced into action to defend his home and it’s residents. Teaming up with another resident, an elderly black man who thinks he’s JFK (Ossie Davis) they decide to take care of business and defeat Bubba Ho-Tep.

To my eternal shame, I have NEVER seen Army of Darkness…. 🙁

I liked FDTD3. They could have skipped number 2 as far as I’m concerned, but 3 was really nice.

No, but I do want to having seen the “remake”.

Last three films I watched were the From Dusk ‘Til Dawn trilogy. Three films about various outlaws crossing paths with vampires in a strip joint in Mexico, two films set in modern times, but the third set as a sort of prequel to the first.

George Clooney, Harvey Keitel and a still-hot Juliette Lewis star in the first, along with the film’s writer Quentin Tarantino (the only man in the world with a chin as famous as Bruce Campbell’s!) and Salma Hayek (three words: the snake scene! 😀 ) – pity she turns into something far less sexy after that! :diablo:

Robert “T2” Patrick stars in the follow-up, that has little to do with the first film except the premise and one recurring character. Not as fun as the first outing, really.

The third film is a prequel to the first, telling the story of how Santanico Pandemonium (Hayek’s character in the first film) came to be the “epitome of evil”. The film has Michael Parks (who played the Texas Ranger in the first film, as well as two separate characters in QT’s Kill Bill series) playing a writer on his way to join Pancho Villa’s revolutionaries, who gets mixed up with a bandit and those damn pesky vampires along the way. Not bad, and a rather nice period setting to it, too.

The DepartedAnother film which, like Saving Private Ryan, I have a hard time in adding to the huge praise lavished up on it.

Good old Mr Postman dropped a few packets through the letter-box today so I started off with Wristcutters:A Love Story.It’s a dark comedy set in the after-life world for those who commit suicide,but 3 people find something to live for.A cracking black comedy.
Then I was going to watch Sweeney Todd but decided not to,having just eaten a large donner with all the trimmings.So I slapped Secondhand Lions into the player.This is a good old fashioned family film about rights and wrongs that makes you smile,laugh and cry (I defy anybody not to have a tear in their eye during “the lake speech”).Osment grows into his character throughout the film,whereas Caine and Duvall shine as the grumpy old brothers.

The Departed

Another film which, like Saving Private Ryan, I have a hard time in adding to the huge praise lavished up on it. Sure, it’s a well-crafted, well-written, well-acted story, but I just don’t see what all the fuss is about, to be honest!

Last film I watched was Hidalgo – good, fun adventure flick with Viggo Mortensen racing across 3,000 miles of desert with his faithful Mustang, Hidalgo. It’s more a traditional adventure film than anything else – sympathetic hero, sneering baddies, decent action scenes and a rousing finish. Good times 🙂

Demolition Man. Hilarious, silly, obnoxious action and mayhem with Stallone, Snipes, and Denis Leary. One of my favorite movies for no other reason than it’s just completely hilarious to see what they’ve done to society in the future.

Sean O’Connor, you have been fined one credit for a violation of the verbal moralities statute!

I love DM for the sheer daftness of it all – silly sci-fi plot, OTT action, Wesley Snipes with blonde hair and bags of attitude. What’s not to love?! 😀

Loser– Jason Biggs from American Pie..plays a geek going to college and pretty much taken advantage of by 3 of his peers who drug the girl he loves at a party…then suprise suprise they get together…if only my attempts at girls worked with the same result

Cheers Daz – got me the DVD of Black Sheep last saturday, it’s on the list now…

Black Sheep

I meant to catch this film while it was out in cinemas, but sadly never got around to it. The plot line goes as such: An experiment in genetic engineering turns harmless sheep into blood-thirsty killers that terrorize a sprawling New Zealand farm.

Yes, OK, man-eating sheep is a bit of a silly storyline, and the joke does wear a bit thin very quickly. However, there is plenty of gore for those of us who like that sort of thing, and it has it’s comedic moments, sure. It tries a little too hard to be in the same (severed) vein as Bad Taste and Braindead , but suffers a lack of charm as a result of a higher budget than those two.

That said, it isn’t all that bad!
