“The Planet” doesn’t need saving, it will continue on no matter what we are doing. It is us that need saving and in the life of a planet we are no more important than the Dodo and look what happened to them,it’s evoloution baby!!

Our council have put in place an excellent system of recycling. Paper, plastic, glass, tins, cardboard goes in one recycle bin, garden rubbish in a second and everything else in another.
The recycle bin goes off to a facility where it is sorted and reclaimed.
Our non-recyling bin is barely used at all now.
The less that goes to wasteful landfill, the better.

Young lad at work commented that we need to save fuel etc…. Told him that was his problem, by the time It becomes a real issue, I will be long gone.

Never ever recycle squat, all goes in one bin, had some bod give me grief, asked them do they use bin bags…. Smiled and said yes, my reply that do you not think it odd if you are fervently for recycling to pack your rubbish in plastic?

I am a strong believer that all the plastics that man has disposed of in landfill will in the future be mined as a resource when oil becomes scarce, so we are laying down a resource for the future. The technology to extract the best from them simply does not exist at present.

As for the UK and all this we must recycle plastics and paper, well it would be better as oil and trees, so rather than go after the people disposing of it, one would of thought going after those producing all the excess packaging in the first place would be the way…….

bring back the refund on empty lemonade bottles too and make them reuse them like milk bottles were.

Well Deano, your standard Micra 1.2 comes in at 80PS and delivers a combined fuel consumption of 56.5 mpg

The supercharged DIG-S 1.2 is 98PS and delivers 68.9 mpg

Now to me achieving a 22.5% improvement in power generation, at the same time as a 22% improvement in economy – and all this without the diesel burden NOx and particulate emmission (In fact the DIG-S falls below the VED and Congestion charge thresholds so pays neither) is not a bad step ‘overnight’

Lots more efficiency improvements need to be done as fuel prices rise, but if they can be acheived at the same time as enhancing, rather than degrading performance then that, to me, is a Good Thing 🙂

With petrol at £6 a gallon I admire your single-handed efforts to reduce the national debt. I shall smirk with self-satisfaction as I drive past yet another filling station while achieving 50+mpg from a 200bhp engine :p

A question as an aside.
Why is it that “saving the planet” is associated with derision?
Surely we should ALL be doing our bit to save the planet?

Sorry you save the Planet bods but today I bought a 4Ltr V8 car.Think of the children think of Climate change! Nah I will just drive it and light up a fag to poison my passengers.

You say amazing technology, but is it? If you think of the advances in all things “technical” the one thing that hasn’t really progressed is the fuel efficiency of motor cars. In nearly 100 years all we have seen is cars burning on average 40-50mpg? This is a movement from what? 20-30mpg? It just isn’t ground breaking. All these modern hybrids like the Toyota Prius etc get no more to the gallon than my little Peugeot 206 1.4 HDI, where if driven steady I can get 70mpg.
It’s a conspiracy I tell ya, we probably do actually have the technology to get +100mpg cars but oil makes the world go round. What would happen if oil became as useless as the Arabs other abundant nature resource? Sand.

Al, I do that with all our rubbish. The only reason why lately is because our local government thinks it’s a good idea to give us 25 different rubbish bins to separate it all out. Where they think people have the room to store all these bins is anyone’s guess. Post Graduates with no life skills or experience making barmy decisions to justify their own existence me thinks.

Only 4.0 litre? You need some American muscle in your life! I’ve had 4.7, a 4.9, a 5.0, 5.7 and 5.8 litre cars over the years. All American V.8’s and all in the U.K. Somehow I never managed to get hold of a 6.6 Trans-Am… The girly 4.9 version is below 🙂

The latest Micra gets near enough 100 bhp from a three cylinder 1.2; and still betters 65 mpg on the combined cycle.

We used to avidly separate our rubbish into cardboard, paper, glass, tins, wood, etc, and took it all down to our local dump, but then a council insider told us the market had fallen out for recycling rubbish, so that it all went to landfill anyway. Now we don’t bother, and burn as much as we can in our coal fire – amazing just how well stuff like plastic wrapping, milk cartons, and even alloy beer cans burn!

When the first Gulf War came along, I thought the price of petrol was going to go through the roof, so sold my 3.5 litre V8 Rover SD1. In kickdown the trip computer would show 2 mpg, and even coasting downhill would never rise above 18mpg! From the sublime to the ridiculous, I then bought a Nissan Micra…

stopping smoking in cars pfft where will it end next thing we know you’ll have to get out and smoke 30ft away from the car before you know it i’ll not even be allowed to hit my wife anymore !!

Tried to get rid of the weeds in the garden. Have been trying to get rid of them for 3 or 4 years but they just keep coming back. One thing’s certain, my cityblock won’t be used for drinkwater extraction anytime soon! And growing veggies is not recommended either! 😀
