Thread: Burma Spitfires – Abandon hope all ye who enter here….Why three stars?

How this thread has been awarded three stars is totally beyond me.

Who by?

Just curious.

I think the original question has been answered, so I’m closing this thread.

Lets leave the Burma News thread on Historic available for any news – if there ever is any..

Sorry, point taken, Baz. But the starring of threads isn’t of much interest to me frankly and from the mod reply earlier it would seem to have been discredited anyway.

Sorry to hear that – even if progress is slow may it continue in the right direction.:)

But if the forum enjoys it’s presence here or anywhere else my lone voice is of little significance.

Charlie

You’re slightly missing the point, this thread is not really about the Burma thread or aviation, I could have chosen around 15 other different threads with stars on. I chose the Burma thread as it is a high profile subject that has a star rating, that for the likes of me I couldn’t understand how or why. The actual contents of the thread are not being discussed on here (as in Historic), just the thread as a whole. I would have thought you (of all people) would have liked to show an opinion by voting up (or down) a thread of interest.

Hope you are feeling much better

Thank you, but not really, way to go yet.

Cheers
Baz

The voting system was deactivated a long time ago because of abuse. People complained “their” threads were voted down.
As this rating system adds no value whatsoever to the discussion, the webmaster removed that option.
Moderators still have the possibility to use it, but as we never use it either…

Baz – my tongue was firmly in my cheek, although I genuinely feel it has outstayed its welcome until there is something new to report and there is a live thread for that in Historic.

But if the forum enjoys it’s presence here or anywhere else my lone voice is of little significance.

Hope you are feeling much better:)

Only a few can vote, the 1 star was Peter (in Canada) back in post 15.
So I guess if you are in Canada, you can vote.

If it gets reactivated, it will appear below the thread title, right hand side.

It has already been voted one star by somebody, and has been most of the evening – if not longer.

As it is I still cannot see where to vote…

Sorry Charlie.

I felt this thread needed to be in general discussion, so as not to be lost in the ether.

This thread is serving a purpose and if MoggyC can get the rating stars ‘switched’ back on, it means that we can all vote on threads we like (or dislike).
At the moment it is only partially working and does not show all our views honestly (or fairly).

It would represent how we all feel a (any) particular thread is either popular or not.

As you seem to be so upset with this thread, I will ask the mods to lock it on Tuesday, after informing us what the Gods response is.

You may even be able to vote it 1 star (terrible) on Tuesday afternoon.

cheers

Baz

Read the descriptions of each forum, Geoff.

“General Discussion
For non-aviation topics”.

Couldn’t be more unequivocal.

Hi All,
Moggy,
I was being serious about the personal attacks, I can understand the mods frustration with the thread particularly when it becomes a slagging off fest and if that’s all it descends into then quite rightly you have terminated the thread. Like I said I may be in a minority of 1 here but I liked the thread as some of the posts were quite informative while others were just an attack on someone’s view as they saw, some obviously know more about the technical side while others like myself say give the bloke a chance despite what evidence there is or not.
Charlie,
Where does it state NO AVIATION GENERAL DISCUSSION! 😀 Here’s an Idea why not change the thread category to General Discussion Off Topic or just Off Topic ?

Geoff.

I must admit I agree with Moggy on this Burma saga but I wish he would not rise to the wind up merchants every time.

You are quite right Paul. I must try harder.

This interminable subject rightly gets locked in Historic and then Baz reopens it in GD, this peaceful in controversial backwater for all things NON-AVIATION. I repeat NON-AVIATION!

He should be sectioned!

Being a mod is a thankless task somedays…. if you dont take action on a thread you get reported posts.. if you do take action then the questions start and so does the finger pointing…

Why three stars? Who the hell really cares, probably only rivet counters and those bored out of their skulls!

All the moderators were watchful for ‘personal attacks’

But in some people’s minds pointing out the huge gaps in the ‘buried Spitfires’ story were ‘personal attacks’ on the integrity of Mr Cundall, rather than realism.

On the other hand, some saw attacking the professional reputation of those who were employed by Wargaming to examine the story as legitimate, just because they didn’t predict the unearthing of crated airframes.

Who has proved to be right?

Hi All,
Maybe the mods could just remove personal attack posts as some like the thread mind you I may in a minority of 1 . :highly_amused:

Mods, perhaps it can be switched back on for all of us to abuse?

Way above our pay grade Baz. I’ll ask the question on Tuesday
