U.S.A Second Amendment re-think

In view of what has happened to these, and indeed other School children, and many other incidents that have taken place, involving the use of Shotguns and Section 1 Firearms.do you think that any individual should be allowed to own seemingly as many weapons as they like?.in the U.S.A.
Personaly, I think the 2nd should be fine tuned, to allow anyone to own the minimum of weapons they REALY need, And all weapons be kept in a secure place within the owners property, or at a gun club, where they are secure.
Should they adopt the same rules and regs as we have here in the U.K.
The other week, I was watching a U.S.A. program where a family business purchased and sold, also traded weapons, and one chap brought to them a pristine GATLING gun he wanted to sell, need I say more?.
What are members views on gun ownership in the States?.

Jim.

You could Rick, if every applicant submitted a Doctors report stating they were fit and stable, mental wise, with no predisposition of mental health problems.when submitting their applications.

Who is going to check, and by what standards, the doctors.

We could get into doctors operating on the wrong person, or performing the operation on the wrong part of the patients body.

You can’t legislate stupidity any more than you can insanity, I thought we’d established that about 28 pages back? 😉

Why am I not surprised Rick, standard practice on any Range, remove the mag and check the chamber, not only did he shoot himself in his hand, but also his foot.
It’s going to take a lot of living down is that one.

From what I’ve seen of them at the range, they’re lucky if they can hit the broad side of a barn…… from inside it…They really are absolutely useless.

The pick up those 2 small mexican women were driving that were mistaken for a large black guy had over 100 bullet holes in it. One of the women was hit once & the other one had a cut from flying glass..

The point is how bad this would be if no police dept. did train to prevent this.

Police have become little gestapos in too many cities where political power, surpasses responsibility.

In Minneapolis, Mn a married couple was car-jacked and the husband successfully disarmed and held the criminal on the ground with the criminal’s weapon.
When the policeman arrived, he promptly got out of his car and shot the husband dead with his shotgun.

They need far, far more training, which they get in some cities, and in my opinion should be treated in the same severe manner a civilian would be if he had shot the husband out of ignorance.

They can train, which nowadays involves running through obstacle type course which include bad guys and innocents, to become proficient at not shooting the wrong person, or not being too slow or too quick, to react.

uh huh…..

Having had a peep at the ballistics side of Hollow-Point vrs Practice ammo, the practice ammo does not follow the same trajectory path as a Hollow-Point, there is a slightly marked difference.
In general it’s advised to practice with the same ammo you intend to use, “On the street” for want of better words.

They can train, which nowadays involves running through obstacle type course which include bad guys and innocents, to become proficient at not shooting the wrong person, or not being too slow or too quick, to react.

That can involve a great number of rounds and hollow points of any type are far more expensive than training solids.

After they have become proficient with various settings or courses, which is actually more important nowadays than being able to hit a target, they can then buy what ever expanding point rounds they intend to use to sight their firearm in for that particular round.

Extreme Shock is just one brand name for the newer expanding point ammunition on the market nowadays.
It is no better or worse morally than any other, whilst as the point of a bullet is to incapacitate another as quickly as possible the more harm it imposes on a criminal the better.

Very few local, city, or state PDs train with duty ammo. Very few Sheriff’s departments train with duty ammo. That’s because they have to buy their ammo based on local city, county, & state budgets. None of those agencies you mentioned are Federal, they don’t get their ammo from DHS.

Training with low powered target ammo teaches officers bad habits and doesn’t adequately prepare them for proper use of duty ammo. POA/POI is different between target and duty ammo so you either have to use estimated offsets or you have to zero your sights for target ammo, and then zero again for duty ammo when you are done training. Most officers don’t do that, they just alter their point-of-aim for the low powered target ammo and reinforce bad habits that are very likely to cause more missed shots when their lives depend on it. Follow up shots are more difficult with the higher powered duty ammo and that will also cause more missed shots because they aren’t properly prepared for it.

The point of my last post was that DHS has many agencies and hundreds of thousands of people working for them. This ammunition purchase is a multi year deal that allows a large agency to lock in best prices for an extended period and ensure there is a steady supply to cover their estimated yearly requirements. The U.S. Coast Guard is now part of DHS, and they used to buy ammo in 5 year contracts. Now they will get their ammo from DHS. The Coast Guard has about 40,000 people between active duty and reserves. The Secret Service is under DHS, as is U.S. Customs & Border Protection, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, FEMA, TSA, and the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center. Many of these rounds will be used for training by FEMA first responders who have to go into areas right after a natural disaster and help secure infrastructure and restore services, and don’t forget the Federal agents who are guarding our nuclear facilities and other critical infrastructure. These people do train with duty ammo, and most of them don’t get enough time at the range. Last year the U.S. Marshals Service reduced the number of rounds issued for training to 1000 per year per Marshal. That’s a bare minimum to keep a person proficient for a whole year. The smart ones usually spend a lot of their own money each year on training ammo. (And in their case, by training ammo I mean the expensive high-powered hollow points that they carry on duty.)

TO SUM IT UP:
Local, City, State PDs & Sheriff’s Departments generally DON’T train with duty ammo. (BAD Training, but saves money.)

Federal Agencies generally DO train with duty ammo. (GOOD Training, but expensive.)

Police & Sheriffs have to live within their budgets or else they will have to lay off officers and people will get fired.

The Federal Government doesn’t.

The military kinda does this…..when I was in the Army (M-1 tank crewman. 19k10 mos) when we went to gunnery we fired blue tipped training rounds out of the main gun. In late 90 while deployed for Desert Shield we fired our first “warshots”, black tippped rounds. There was a VERY noticable increase in the violence of the recoil with those things!

The Federal Government doesn’t.

Given that they haven’t actually passed budget in 4 years, it would be impossible for them to live within a budget…because they are incapable of even suggesting one… & Obumble is in direct violation of the law that states the POTUS has to come up with one every February….
