UK Census form available in 55+ languages!

I applaud your belief in the system. But I don’t share it. The logic of your argument is that we cannot afford to reduce spending money if people are put out of work – even if we cannot afford to pay them.:confused:

I have no belief in the system.
As I do not have the ability or the will to create a better system, I accept it.
and make the best of a bad job.

I have actualy been out at night along the border with the C.H.P. and you wouldn’t believe the THOUSANDS waiting at the foothills awaiting to get over the wire, past the Police Officers hiding in the fields waiting for them to await darkness and try and get over the road, and once they are in, they just melt into the rest of the population.

What you and your friend have seen and what you have felt is nothing to do with bare statistics. If Hispanics are about a third of the total population then “native Californians” are not an ethnic minority, are they?

In any case what is an ethnic Californian? The great characteristic of American society is that it has been a melting pot of races and cultures from all over the world for 3 centuries. Native Californians are in fact English, Italian, African, Mexican, Spanish, African, German, Japanese, Chinese and many others all comprising a multi-ethnic population but all US citizens and all integrated. Your friend will be descended from one of these groups of peoples unless he is of Red Indian descent, or native american as we must learn to call them!

Make sure you finish your online questionnaire and click the “Submit” button. The online questionnaire website will close on Friday 6 May. If you have not submitted your questionnaire by the closing date, your partially completed questionnaire will be submitted automatically. Census staff may contact you to collect missing information. Or you can complete and return a paper questionnaire.

I’m not expecting any visitors on that day, and if any turn up, There will be no room at the inn.:)

Please correct me but I think that Hispanic Americans are just under a third of California’s population, these are people of Hispanic origin but born in the USA, and illegal immigrants far fewer, so I am not sure how your friend arrives at his conclusion. Perhaps it is more a sense of feeling an explosion of illegal Mexicans around Southern California and perhaps your friend is resentful of the trend. Just a friendly thought, not a criticism.:)

Not sure what, except that a small group of fanatic muslims committed an atrocity in London. The muslim population is estimated at 2.4 million so represents approximately 4% of the total population.

Firstly the argument in this thread is about the necessity for the form to be available in 55 languages, although it is being corrupted into another debate about the census itself.

Secondly the “pseudo-Daily Mail outrage”, whatever that phrase means, is not against doing something the government wants but against its purpose. That is quite different.

My apologies. I hadn’t realized you were part of the forum police. If this doesn’t drift off-topic (or “corrupted” as you put it) it must be one the very few on here that doesn’t.

Your second para? No it isn’t – it just a Daily Mail-esque whine about something the government wants. Many aspects of future policy are dependent on need; why not give them the information they want. Being in many languages makes it a little easier – is that too much to ask?
As I said before, just fill in the damned form.

Probably a flaw in the system as I know a few people who have already filled in and submitted theirs on line.

What did make me laugh is the question about the standard of spoken english, little Inky isn’t yet 3 but for her age she has good english, come to think of it I’ve heard worse from adults!

Censuses (Censi ?) have been carried out for centuries to allow governments to make informed decisions about future plans. Why is it such a a big deal?

It takes 15 minutes every 10 years to fill in the form, hardly an onerous task – just do as you’re told and fill it in.

I fail to see any problems with the census, done mine and submitted it.
(It’s my fourth one I have done, and possible my last, if it is not scrapped, I will possible be dead and gone before the next one in ten years’ time.)

questions also include info about your job how many ( apart from the retired ) know they are going to be doing the same thing in a few months time

Sorry Pete, but I have to agree with you on that one. Lets just chuck in a “What if here”
What if, EVERYONE filled in their Census forms, (Including you tornado) just so you don’t feel left out:) and within say a month, EVERYONE moved emigrated etc, what on earth good would the census be then?. But HEY, just hang on a minute, a retired friend has just moved for the 22nd time!! how many more are like him?.;)

Perhaps a census should be done every year, and the results sent to the benefits office, so that if Joe Bloggs and his wife living in The street anytown,uk. Receive benefit cheques for more than the amount of people stated on the form, and then more illegal immigrants may be found.

Take a census.

and how pray tell me did you come to that conclusion ??

illegal immigrants by their very nature claim nothing off the state

they work and pay rent in run down areas
and keep on the move ( iv’e known a few personaly ) they usualy move when the authorities are onto them ( usualy reasonably quickly )

the last thing they want is to appear on any government list

asylum seekers are a difrent kettle of fish altogether

i was once told the government paid them no money but gave them vouchers

but logic tells you money is being paid out somewhere as obviously a voucher has no monetary value and cannot be exhanged for items either can it !!

it is far from as easy as you seem to think to make a mass claim for bennefits

I have a very highly respected surgeon friend in San Diego, California, he told me some time ago, that the illegal immigrants from Mexico, and from over the State Border have made the Californians the ethnic minority in their own State.
