No you are NOT in the minority. It is another case of a politician trying to look good and cool by associating himself with a personality [or not in this case] rather than someone who really deserves it .
Exactly and as I similarly posted in #18.

so what? the great british public seem so eager to be part of ‘something’ these days – is it because many have little interest of their own outside of shopping and ‘reality’ TV ??
I wonder about that too.
I have to say that the masses in this country are a pretty dismal lot on the whole.

Can’t understand how anybody could possibly spend yesterday’s glorious afternoon indoors watching tele.

indeed… :applause: for fans of tennis, Mr Murray and his bank manager i’m sure it was an exciting day…. for myself, and many others who have absolutely no interest in tennis for the other 50 weeks of the year – so what? the great british public seem so eager to be part of ‘something’ these days – is it because many have little interest of their own outside of shopping and ‘reality’ TV ??

Why?
All he was doing was playing tennis. He doesn’t have to go to work to support a family or pay the bills like sportsmen (oops sorry, and sportswomen) from the non pc non dumbed down society. Still, I’m probably in the minority. Sir Andy Murray,,,, I hope not. He did well, I’m proud of him, but a knighthood – NO

Well done Andy. A true Scottish Local Hero.I’m sure the people of Dunblane are rightly proud of him.

Saw the Miles Magister flying low over Lincoln this morning, presumably on its way home after the Waddington Air Show, and it was strange to think that the Maggie hadn’t even entered RAF service the last time a British man won Wimbledon.

A charisma-free Scot wins a bat and ball game and, predictably the media goes into hyperdrive.

Couldn’t agree more! And as for the rumour mongering about a knighthood, it sounds like a rerun of the clamour for a Bruce Forsyth knighthood – nothing better for a PM seeking popularity, of course!. God, what is the matter with people!?

The British & Irish Lions win a series for the first time in 16 years, Abu Qatada has been deported back to Jordan, Andy Murray wins Wimbledon in straight sets to become the first Brit since 1936 to lift the trophy, Nigella Lawson is single again and its 72 degrees Fahrenheit outside.
Carlsberg don’t do weekends, but if they did, they’d probably be the best weekends in the world !!!

Yes, well done for winning Wimbledon. About time a Brit won.
Found the match a pretty boring affair though.
Not saying the players are not talented or highly skilled but it was just wack, wack wack (109 mph!) with no real finesse or interest (for me).
Sign of the times for taking the sport to it’s extreme I guess.

Once Nadal and Federer had gone out in the early rounds, there was a certain inevitability as to
who would win the championship. They had decided it was Murray’s turn to win this year.
It’s a shame that the best game wasn’t the final, but the semi-final between Djokovic and Del Potro
Strewth !!… I’m not even a tennis fan 😀

I am going to recommend YOU Moggy for a Knighthood, for putting up with us lot, plus all the time you put into “Putting things right” on the Forum.
I only need a few more Coupons from the Daily snail, and I will submit the application.
DON’T however expect me to call you Sir Moggy, :highly_amused:

I didn’t even realise this had happened.
In fact, I’m only vaguely aware of who Andy Murray is, tennis not being my thing.
By: kev35 - 7th July 2013 at 22:24
As I said earlier on Facebook, I firmly believed that Murray would never win Wimbledon as long as he had the proverbial hole in his rear end. However, he proved me very wrong and all that was left for me to do was to decide whether to have custard or cream with my humble pie. (Cream was duly chosen and was very nice.)
I am genuinely pleased for him and particularly the manner in which he won.
As for a Knighthood? For winning Wimbledon? (And £1.6 million of course.)
Regards,
kev35

Hadn’t thought of that. They really are devalued now, aren’t they?
By: Lincoln 7 - 7th July 2013 at 22:01
Well, That’s his Knighthood assured. I bet.
