I’m curious…. I joined the Key Pubs. Fora 2 years ago due to my hunt for Military Aerobatic Team information, which proved to be quite fruitful. I came here as an avid reader of Air Forces Monthly and joined via the ‘Modern Military Aviation’ thread.
From a personal point of view, it didn’t take long (to be blunt, it was quite quickly), I found far more fulfilling, intelligent input, debate and content in the ‘Historic Aviation’ thread. Strangely, I’ve noticed a number of Historic thread visitors refer to it as the ‘Flypast’ forum – yes I am fully aware of Flypast Magazine as a Key Publishing product.
So, what I’m asking is… which ‘portal’ or general interest brought you here (and if not via the magazines, how did you find it), and what was your original interest in joining?

I can’t remember when I joined (2004ish I think), although there’s probably some information on it on my profile pages somewhere but I think I was browsing google for some information on the Spitfire Mk V undercarriage (I used to do a lot of that in college…..probably all I did 😀 😀 😀 LOL :D).
I ended up bookmarking it and reading some of the threads during my lunch-break and an hour later I was posting as though I’d been doing it for years….and now I actually have 😀 😀 :D.
Don’t get much time on the internet now though so my hands and fingers actually have time to ache like hell 😀 😀 😀 Perhaps I have RSI or something 😀 😀 😀 LOL 😀
I tend to stick mostly to the GD and FS forums mostly (as well as models of course)
Mark.
And I used to have more than 1,107 posts 😀 😀 😀

I must have started lurking here since 2004. I’m not sure I remember why I found my way here, but I am fairly sure Ace Combat had something to do with it. :p Like the young punk that I am, I really only focused on the Modern Military section… and it’s no different today. It seemed I had quite an obsession with aircraft that keel people (not the ‘crashing’ kind, mind you. :D) back in the day.
I used to lurk, then asked, now I even engage in discussion. I’m being assimilated into your cult as we speak! 😮 😀

I spend much of 2007 studying at the Australian College of Applied Psychology, and went to VietNam where I got married last December. I was very busy last year and nice to be back.
Good on you sir. Nice to hear some good news, congrtulations. May your marriage be long, happy and fruitful. Mike

Well I found this site bit earlier than I joined, and decided to sneak in as there were quite active and informative world navy and army forum. Now I mainly stick around becouse of the naval forum, tough unfortunetly its standarts have lowered during these last months…:(
Ps. The unofficial/alternative reason why I joined here is that I supposedly pursued one of SDF banned member in some sort of personal revenge in mind. This version is widely spread among the youths that have china very close to their hearts. Its authentity is however as solid as the whole claim in its ridiciloudness. 😉

I found this forum whilst searching for historical stuff relating to the Ogaden War between Ethiopia and Eritrea, and I stumbled across the small air forces thread and decided to join because it was interesting.

Of course there is that. Not that either bothers me that much as I tend not to get too wound up over anything, certainly not work, as it’s not worth it.

Like Kabir, I’m here for ages, I joined to ask a question about the mags.
Other “original” members I remember would be:
Arthur, ELP, Kfadrat, Skythe, Mercurion, Rosco (some of them who unfortunately aren’t here anymore.. )
Those were the times 😀

For once I agree with you Sealordlawrence. If you have a questionthrow it on the appropriate section of this forum and an answer is usually forthcomming within a short time.

Started off using it as an information source, I began posting questions and as time went by I started to answer them too. If you think Modern Military Aviation is bad now you should have seen it when I first joined, the nationally orientated b**ch fests were well out of control. The problem with that particular forum is that its subject matter will naturally attract younger people and people with strong national pride (even if it is not their nationality) however I do feel that the bear pit nature helps to insure an exceptionally high level of discussion both in detail and accuracy, falsehoods are not allowed to stand and the truth usually outs itself.
I have used most of the sections here in the past and I am constantly astonished by the breadth of knowledge and experience present and I regard Key Publishing Forums as a monument to the information age.
