What will happen to the Concorde fleet?

Hello guys and gals 🙂

As you may already be aware, BA is to retire Concorde later this year (for the latest on the BBC website see here: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/2934257.stm )

Now my question is…when Concorde retires, what will be the fate of the seven aircraft? Will another operator take them on? Will they be going to Museums? (Bearing in mind that there are already two on display in this country at Duxford and the FAA Museum) Or will they end up being scrapped (this I would hate to see as I do think they are beautiful, majestic birds :))

Over to you…

Ashley

Moggy. I would remind you that Concorde was a joint project between Britain and France, not England and France. We are part of the u.k. As it happens, I dont believe there is anywhere in Scotland a Concorde could be preserved and displayed, but thats really beside the point.
Furthermore, we do not have an Australian actor as our figurehead. Films and reality are two different entities.

I believe Filton will be redeveloped but the real story of Bristol
aircraft needs to be told at Bristol. Apart from that they have the SS Great Britain there and all in all it would be great to tell the tale of aviation in one easy to find location.

Alastair, many thanks mate, I’ll have a sniff around and get myself booked in somewhere.

Meanwhile, on the Concorde topic (sorry for hijacking it earlier folks 😮 ), much as I dearly love the old bird, I fear that we’ll find ourselves in ten years time grumbling about the various museums which have taken an airframe, been unable to shelter her from the elements, and therefore now have an unsafe and unrestorable aircraft on their hands. I really wouldn’t want to see such a beautiful and iconic aircraft end it’s days that way… 🙁

Much the same way the Vulcan’s are going now .

There have been some good replies on this thread. David Burke wrote that Filton should receive one for it’s proposed museum, is that the Bristol collection which is mostly at Kemble? If so perhaps Kemble should be added to the list of possible locations, and if Lottery funding can be arranged for a new hangar it would mean a secure future for an interesting collection.

Is there anybody on the forum connected with , or local to Kemble if so please comment on the current situation.

I agree that East Fortune should have a Concorde, but only if they can keep it under cover.

Steve ,
The attachment below is full of good B+B’s , but to be honest if you just drive up and look round you will get the same places for half the price . Or look at the Marine Hotel – they bar stays open until residents pass out , and there are a couple of nice inns too. If there’s anything I can do you can contact me direct at
ageorge@haemonetics.com or on any morning at 01501-731899

Pah!

And I do get bottles of Balvenie down here. Works for me.

Ah no , Robin Cook is Livingston’s MP , not too far from me , you can keep that runt !!.
AAhhh , I have to give you that , Balvenie is a fine whisky , that and Highland Park are the only two palatable whisky’s I have found south of the border , Laphroigh is a fine whisky too and I have found this in a few places , anything that starts with a “Glen” is a Tourist whisky , this is not to say they are bad , but there is better available elsewhere if you look.

Any thing else in Scotland worth a look?
I have been to Colwyn Bay!

East Fortune has a pretty well kept Vulcan and a fairly decent Museum to go with it , if you have time go up anywhere in Speyside and do the whisky trail , then you will appreciate good whiskys , theres plenty to do up here and good accomodation is cheap and easy to find , we rented a house up in Cullen and it was £25 pounds per night for the whole house no matter if there were 2 of you or 6 of you , nice beaches up there too.

Gratefully , and we’ll keep our oil revenues while we’re at it.

ONLY KIDDING , I never voted for devolution , I’m British and proud of it , there has NEVER been an independant country called Scotland , Dalriada , Caledonia whatever you want to call it , more Scots fought with the Government at Culloden than with the French Young Pretender.

I still want a Concorde though !!!!!!!

Speaking of which, can you recommend any decent B&B’s for the weekend of 26th/27th?

Let them invent their own SST if they want one.

But don’t turn off the whisky pipeline – please

Concorde flew into Edinburgh or Glasgow most years for charter flights and was always full , as it was a British achievement why not give one to East Fortune , I mean we gave you our current Scottish Prime Minister , Tony Blair .
As for cutting the whisky pipeline , you are perfectly safe , we never let any decent whisky’s leave Scotland , you only get the Tourist whisky’s down south Glenmorangie , Glenfiddich and Chivas Regal , the only decent whiskys are from the small independant distilleries – if you want a decent whisky you have to come up here.

Concorde can’t really fly many routes because of no sonic boom over land. So really it’s New York or nothing. Also nobody has suggested a welsh museum for concode to go to. (Although I’m not too sure if they have any).
