What's happened to G.B.?

Just seen on the News, Food Charity “Shops” have trebeld in the last year, and new ones are opening at the rate of 3 a day. Folks who are at work cannot afford to eat.The unemployed whoes benefits have been cut etc.
So why the hell are we giving Overseas Aid to other Countries?.Once we used to lead, and others followed, now it’s the other way around.

(As an aside that’s one of my many reasons for supporting the EU and the Euro longterm :))

Just my opinion your understand. Not trying to convince anybody. (Charlie 😉 )

You sad, deluded fool!!:D. No, not a chance, as you say, Snafu.;) And I was delighted to read this a couple of days ago

” The European Union’s climate change policy is on the brink of collapse today after MEPs torpedoed Europe’s flagship CO2 emissions trading scheme by voting against a measure to support the price of carbon permits.”

And I am sure I saw a reference today to a poll across all members of the EU indicating a majority opposed to further integration. But perhaps that was just wishful thinking…..:eagerness:

Free market capitalist economics is what has happened to the UK.

Politicians of either side are merely conduits or catalysts, manipulated by those exerting influence for their own ends.

This usually being maximising profit and retaining their existing wealth.

Those who control companies will always look to reduce the costs of production and maintain or even drive up the cost of the product to the consumer.

Making those in employment worker longer and harder for less compensation is a very obvious strand of this.

The UK and West in general is gradually being replaced as the consumer base by Asia.

To reverse the trend Governement would need to undertake a fundemental re-structuring of the British state; to the point of becoming interventionist and protectionist with regard to business and completely renewing the health and benefit systems to only benefit those truly in need.

No party will get elected on that ticket until it is too late. So UK Plc as a stand alone entity is unfortunately screwed. (As an aside that’s one of my many reasons for supporting the EU and the Euro longterm :))

Just my opinion your understand. Not trying to convince anybody. (Charlie 😉 )

Brown did one good thing, though – he dissuaded Blair from joining the Euro and for that we should be ever grateful.

Well, at least we agree on that point.

Precisely – which is why I disagree with your post about GB. Blair was a prat in many ways but a very clever politician who made his party electable again, despite the efforts of his Chancellor. Brown did one good thing, though – he dissuaded Blair from joining the Euro and for that we should be ever grateful.

Chas, I know that. What a wonderful chap Brown was, selling a huge amount of the Countries Gold reserves at a knockdown price. He may have steered the GB ship for 10 yrs, but he navigated us onto the rocks in the end.

Linc, I think you forget that it was Brown who drove the GB ship economically for 10 years – Blair effectively handed over the tiller to Brown in 1997, who was probably one of the most powerful Chancellors of the last century.

In a way Moggy, I feel, (Very slightly) sorry for G.B. he was dumped in his lap, a baby with a filthy nappy, by Blair, and hadn’t a clue what to do about it.
I.M.H.O. It was Blair, the first rat to jump the sinking ship.that started the rot.

Free country, Linc – I’ll look out for any original comment…..

Well how about pumping poison gas into all lorries arriving at a ferry port to the UK. That should free up a few quid for deserving cases and discourage others wanting to come here.

Apart from the Nazi’s and zyclon B its original does that help charlie?

So where is the differance in our killing of civilians in Iraq,Afghanistan and stand aside in Syria really differ from the above?
What proportion of Uk citizens support Forieign aid, anyone know?

Let the lads have their say Chas, this is OUR Country we are on about, not some 3rd World Country, there again, with our Credit Rating being dropped, are we approaching being a SECOND world Country. I agree with Gary regarding retiring earlier, but you still have to have a damned good Pension/pot to survive.
