When I worked for Virgin there were many ex-RAF bods there who said exactly the same thing as SteveYoung.

John Nichol(pilot/POW), nice bloke.
Well there’s a phrase I never thought I’d see. Personally, I thought he was an arrogant a@$@&0!e, as did the rest of my course and all the Flt Cdrs, some of which had known him, and flown with him, in 15 Sqn. He may have mellowed since leaving the RAF, but believe me he was universally despised when we met him in 92. He was (and still is in certain quarters) seen as something of a leech, who used his fifteen minutes of fame for personal gain when there were plenty of others who’d been through some very tough times in the operation, most of whom had just knuckled down and got back on with the job when they returned.
Oh, and despite the image he appears to actively encourage, he wasn’t a pilot, he was a Nav.
His pilot on 17th Jan 91 was John Peters, who, after helping to write their book, drew a line under the experience, knuckled down and got back into the job. I seem to recall Flt Lt Peters was held in very high esteem by his peers…

I bumped into Liam Gallagher and Alan White in a pub in Basel a couple of years ago (White is the oasis drummer, although no one actually seems to know what he looks like… I only realised it was him when Liam got him to sign me an autograph as well)
And, er, Paul Lambert when he played a club game in Basel (no, not that game… it was for Dortmund, a couple of months after they won the Champions League in 97)
I’ve also had a word with infamous highboard diver Peter Lovenkrands (at least, I *think* he’s a highboard diver ;))
And I once infamously stopped Lenny Kravitz going backstage before his own gig, as he didn’t have his backstage pass with him (hey, anyone could walk in with a towel over their heads to avoid the press, couldn’t they?)

Hang about a mo. No. ‘Disable smilies’ is not checked.
By: Chipmunk Carol - 5th September 2003 at 09:00
Phil: I know this is a bit obvious, but when you are posting a reply, below the box where you enter text are some option boxes. One is labelled “Disable Smilies in This Post”. If it’s ticked you’ll never be able to 🙂 🙁 😮 😀 😉 :p 😎 😡 😮
If it is unchecked and you stil cannot get your smilie up, hound the Webmaster like a restless warrior with an untameable hunger.
Or you could just type colon, hyphen, close bracket!
Good luck 😎

Oh, did I mention, Billy is writing a book? Clever bugger him. Mind you, being an Air Commodore, I suppose he has the time.
About goat worrying? (another smilie please.) Look chaps can we just take it as read I am posting here toungue in cheek ‘cos my smilies don’t work at work. Mind you I really ought to be working ought’nt I?

Oh my, it will be his first time overseas since 1945! (He came over to France by Dakota with the advance party in June 44). In France, the locals all wanted him to get on their goats. Unfortunately, as Billy ate everything bar bromide, he was snipped and couldn’t oblige.

That’s quite alright. Glad to be of assistance. Hopefully it’ll be a bit better quality than that copy I ran off.
Have a good time in Belgium. Hmm, that’s got me pondering. Is this William’s first foray over former enemy-held territory…?
By: Snapper - 4th September 2003 at 14:09
You don’t get off that easily! I’m not flying to Belgium until Saturday morning. Returning Sunday afternoon with hopefully a good supply of pix and video footage of 609 veterans, the new de Selys memorial, and some excellent beer!
BUT. The builders are making me a 609 Squadron office at home, so i’m over at mums – and she has to pay for each minute on the net. Consequently I only coime on here and there from work.
And as for that crack about an egg – is that to do with my smooth skull? I’ll have you know i’m famed for my hairstyle – lots of bald men have copied it. (Incidentally, according to the Working Tax Credit thingy, I am eligible for free wigs from the NHS. Isn’t that cool? I think I should get a mohican, some dreads, and a nice brown manager one for interviews!)
ps – received the tape yesterday, thanks Steve.

No sorry I’m a bit new to the forum.
By: Arabella-Cox - 4th September 2003 at 13:24
He’s a goat fondler from Lowestoft.
(It’s alright, we can slag him off now he’s in Belgium for a few days!)
Nah, only kidding. 😀
Not sure if you were serious about not knowing who he is? He’s one of the forum regulars. I’ve only met him once, but he’s an all round good egg.

So have I, got his picture as well.
He did offer to give me his autograph but I declined, didn’t want hoof prints all over my 609 Sqn pictorial history.

I met Robert Plant in a book shop in Machynlleth not far from Bron Y Aur cottage. I was looking at a book and he said “thats a good book that is, I lent a copy to a mate and never got it back, so I had to buy another copy.”
Now I am without a doubt a mad Led Zeppelin fan but I did not recognise him up close. I’m glad really I might have come over all embarracing. I bought the book though on his recomendation. Also I have wondered to this day who this particular mate was. Jimmy Page? John Paul Jones? I bet it was somebody equally famous. Nice bloke, I hope I meet him again.

Well that little relationship never made it to the tabloids!

I saw Ross Kemp and Gordon Brown when I went diving with sharks one day – right here in sunny Scotland!

“I used to live directly across the road from Susanna York….”
Careful Plazz, Moggy will be wanting pictures….especially any sneeky ones:D 😉
Well, famous people… quite a few through work in film and television industry.
Sean Connery; Richard Gere; Jeremy Irons; Julia Ormonde; Ewan MacGregor; Alan Parker; Eddie Izzard
Most of the the cast of Eastenders, the Bill, Casualty(oooh… Claire Goose;)), Londons Burning, Grange Hill, Emmerdale, Dalziel and Pascoe and many more.
Had a very pleasant tea and chat with (then) Sir ****ie (Richard then for the Webby…) Attenborough and Anthony Hopkins one afternoon.
Went to school Jay kaye and an Asian Prince.
At my cousins wedding ended up in the boxing ring with Jo Bugner Jr and Dave ‘Boy’ Green… mind you not at the same time and we were all totally lashed with booze. The ring was inflatable and the gloves were huge (thank God!).
I guess I’ve been lucky.

I used to live directly across the road from Susanna York, I went to school with her two kids (one of them my age, the other slightly younger) and her house cleaning lady is one of my mothers good friends and as a result of that friendship she’s also my god mother. Of course Susanna has since sold up and moved, I believe to the USA.
