Quick question; wanted one of these for a while, and this looks like a bargain. Can someone more knowledgeable than me tell me if it’s a good way to start, please? Thanks very much indeed.

You have to get Wii Mario Kart, make sure your wifi is on and enjoy the addiction!! by a country mile the best/most popular game for the Wii.
The Wii is really for people who arent hardcore gamers with 30 fingers.. it’s fun put simply. Enjoy your Wii, it’s still up there at the very top after all these years, and must be flattering that the others are only now starting to copy it (Kinect etc..)

Thanks again for the replies, folks. Bought a copy of Blazing Angels, but haven’t had time to get the hang of it yet. Looks good, though.

Thanks very much, Daz. Looks great. Is it easy to use though, and can you just use the bog-standard remote? Thanks again.
It has a couple of different control set-ups (easy or expert!) but you don’t need any special attachments for the controller.
One way in which the Wii version is better than the X-Box is that you can fly both in 3rd person view AND from in the cockpit – and the Mk.I Spitfire’s cockpit is stunningly detailed!

IMO there a load of rubbish. Just another (expensive) thing to go in the cuboard with the `ab master`, exercise bike and all the other fitness gimmiks.
I have had a go with the Kinect as well, and although it is a lot better at picking up movement, I dont think its worth the extra money.
The truth is a after ten minutes of jummping around like a wolly, you think if I realy wanted to be this active, I would be outside 🙂
No the Wii will be out being used long aafter the superior kit is gathering dust or outdated. I think you’ve missed the point of it, the Wii dosen’t need brilliant graphics or be anywhere near as capable as other consoles, it is just good fun and a great fitness system.
My Mrs still uses most of the fitness programmes after three years of ownership, not only do the excercises actually work but you can also keep a very accurate record of how you’re progressing.
As for picking up movement I am staggered at just what the wii does pick up, the wii balance board (highly recommended Mr Creosote!) always amazes me at how it picks up even the slightest movements and chages in balance made even high up in the body.
Its strong suit however is that absolutely all the family can actually understand it and all join in.
Anyway, name me somewhere outdoors where I can go down a river in a bubble, just using my balance to guide it, or be a chicken landing on targets!:D

Is it me or does the Wii goes against the ethos of gaming itself? i.e. sitting on a recliner with a beer and pizza while shooting at things? :D:diablo:

If you think it’s just a fitness gimmick then I’m afraid you are mistaken. It is the first games console that took games out of the sad teenager’s bedroom and into a more family orientated product. The Wii is an easy to setup, well packaged, easy to use product aimed at a specific market. The 86million customers would tend to suggest that it is not totally rubbish.
The fact that teenagers don’t seem to like it is a plus in my opinion.;)

The best thing about them is watching someone using them!:D

If you’re looking for a Wii flight sim, you can’t do much better than this:
[I have this on both the X-Box 360 and the Wii, and it’s immense fun!

The Wii is very dated now and has quite low res graphics
It was that way when it came out…..it wasn’t supposed to be super high-tech in terms of visuals. I am bewildered as to the number of people that don’t seem to understand that….

The Wii is very dated now and has quite low res graphics (my phone is better). It’s fun for a while, but buy one if you must second hand with lots of kit at a good price.
Kinect is better if you can afford the outlay.

I wish Nintendo would ressurect ‘Pilot Wings’ from N64 to work with Wii, brilliant flying game!
By: DazDaMan - 6th June 2011 at 23:06
The Wii is definitely the kind of games system where you can get several friends round for a few beers and a few games. There’s even a flying game on Wii Sports resort – with dogfighting!

Hope you are having fun with it 🙂

Ha ha, good fun innit? Mucho Brownie points with Mrs.C too. 🙂
By: inkworm - 6th June 2011 at 21:18
We tend to play when friends are round, got some games but really don’t have the time for it most months.
By: pagen01 - 6th June 2011 at 20:38
I’m not into consoles and computor games at all, loose interest in even the latest kit very quickly, however the Wii is just great fun, and fun that you can have by yourself or the rest of the family.
Even the mother in law takes part and somehow keeps beating us at bowling!
Wii Fit Resort and Brain Academy are my faves!
Apart from the remotes, the Wii ballance board I would say is a must to get full value out of the whole package (and you do feel the burn if you’re anything like me!), as mentioned the other gadgets are a waste of time.

Many thanks for all the replies, folks. Picked the Wii up tonight, and just about to give it a go. 🙂

^^ What he said.
We have both as well, although the Wii has been a bit dormant of late…!
