Hi
Total fantasy here but just imagine if the owners of NX611 wanted to fly it would BAE need to become involved or not as they were not to keen on the Shack coming over to Coventry and also what would the CAA say ?

RE NX611
Just one, this is my father in front of NX611 in 1971, he worked on the first Manchesters on 207 sqn at waddington and then on the first Lancasters on 44 sqd, this was the first time my father
had been close to a Lanc since 1945. His grandson is now on
BBMF.

She was flown to Biggin Hill in 1965 from Sydney, Australia over 19 days! After that she was grounded for 2 years due to expiry of hours on an engine and propeller.
From May 1967 she went on to make 14 further flights before the final one to Blackpool mentioned above, including most notably the 24th anniversary of the Dams raid at Scampton.

Last ever flight was from Hullavington, Wilts to Blackpool on 26th June 1970.
“…an uneventful trip apart from the loss of two exhaust stubs in flight somewhere over North Wales.”
(from “Story of a Lanc”)
They would have made a nice souvenir for someone!!
After two years sitting in the salty sea side air, the decision was made not to try and fly her out of Blackpool.

The last flight of 611 was either to Blackpool or Scampton.
Anyone any idea which one is right

🙂 I spoke to one of the Panton brothers summer before last and he said it would’nt take alot to get her airworthy again and they may consider it at sometime but as they say if the worst happened what would East Kirby be like without her.
My first thoughts were OH WOW it could fly,but i think i would like them to have a spare taxyable aircraft as a back up just in case the worst did happen before she flew again.
Any spare taxyable aircraft laying around by any chance:)
