Ok, so what is your favourite Sci Fi craft? Starship Enterprise? Fireball XL5? ‘Seaview’ from Voyage to the bottom of the sea? The Sectrum Pursuit Vehicle?
It’s over to you…..

21st Century Foss The very book i was thinking of.
I also have many Sci-Fi books of various authors with his work on the front cover.Just the sight of a book with one of Chris Foss’s artwork would make me want to read the book.
I always thought he could paint something like a spaceship looking so far advanced, yet seemingly so familiar and rooted in today.

Alien as well- in fact, unless I’m very mistaken, the image you mention in Jetflap’s posting was his design for the Nostromo.
It’s on the cover of 21st Century Foss which, if it’s still in print, I strongly recommend to any fan of sci-fi art and design.
Chris Foss also did the black and white line drawings in the original The Joy of Sex, which shows what a versatile artist he is. 🙂

RUMCAJS
Reading that comic reminds me of Battlestar Galactica,Star Trek and a bit of 2001.
JETFLAP
I love that Chris Foss painting it’s on the front cover of a book of his work i have.
BTW Chris Foss a did a lot of pre production art work for the Dune Film /

This ship from “battle Beyond the Stars” has a certain charm about it;)

My favourite Sci-Fi craft is Captain Nemo’s Nautilus, from Jules Verne’s Twenty Thousand Leagues. Something which at its time WAS science fiction, even if it isn’t today. But it isn’t the camp, atomic version that looks like a fish from the Disney film I like, but the one described in the book.
I’d also have to go with FireFlash from Thunderbirds, as I love its lines.

Not actually from TV or film, but Chris Foss has produced some fantastic designs. This is one of my favourites:

1. The Invaders saucer
2. Jupiter 2
3. UFO saucer from the Anderson series
4. Martian War Machine from the George Pal War of the Worlds movie
5. Klingon Battle Cruiser. Original design and ST movie type
6. Romulan Bird of Prey. Next Gen design.
7. Fireflash
I really loved The Invaders shows, IMO that saucer was one of the most intimidating designs of them all. I have 2 unmade kits of it and one built up. Jupiter 2 is an icon and the Anderson UFOs are a masterpiece of engineering, IMO that is.

BSG
That is easily the best sci fi series there is
EVER
Good series. but that accolade for me has to be Babylon 5. Great story Well acted too
I’m a big fan of Babylon 5. For me the Earth Alliance Starfury fighter and the Earth Alliance Omega class destroyer (best known for the EAS Agamemnon) just look most convincing as space craft.
edited to add: do semi-organic crafts count? The Shadow battle crab are seriously cool. In Top Gear terms they would go in the DB9 freezer! 😉

Agreed. I would also go for the White Star Fleet too

It has to be the Tardis for me in one of its many guises.
Runners up would be Thunderbird 2, Original BSG Vipers and Stingray.

Does Chitty Chitty Bang Bang count? 😀
It does to me!
Any flying, sailing, Edwardian roadster is fine with me.
BTW: I saw one of the film cars at the Cars of the Stars Museum in Keswick, a very impressive piece of work.
Never underestimate the power of film. When I drive my pre-WW I roadster (actually a film replica), most young children (and their parents) ask if it is “Chitty”.
Not bad for a film that is older than most of the parents.

“I agree with nominations for Dark Star, Valley Forge, Anastasia (Dan Dare) and Discovery (2001)”
And here is a fine model of the lady herself along with some other Dan Dare craft.

From Al
Gerry Anderson certainly came up with some great futuristic designs through the years…
before Supercar I believe he was involved with Space Patrol, so how about the Galasphere from that series. great launch sequence:
Ready to launch
Gamma rays… ON
Yobba rays…ON
Also from that series: the Gabbladictum – a mouthy bird from Mars.
Still a few of them around! 😉
