Neither has US industry, or can you see Lockheed pumping 20 Billion of their money into JSF? No industry has the money to fully develop a fighter on it’s own. Government backing is always needed even in a European partnership. so really what you’re saying is not anything new or spectacular. 😉

    Offcourse its not.

Come on, Matt, I asked about the technical feasibility & costs. There’s no point in discussing the politics & financing, since we all know it’s a non-starter politically & financially.

Sorry dude, but having some (small) connection to the industry i know the realities and i what i said in your quote was a reply to a proposition that we could do it alone.

Even if the development is 50/50 UK industry would not have the money.

I guess you take democracy and the freedom that comes with it for granted. Maybe an extended stay in such a society with your mouth zipped, spies keeping tabs on who you meet, what you eat, drink, what you say, or forced to say only what the State wants to hear would clear up your mind. In my opinion maybe a brainwashed zombie can survive this experience; not one who enjoys the benefits of democracy.

Open your eyes and look at the “free Society” you are living in. That is all i have to say. you really do need to contemplate about freedom and what it all entails not just what you like it to entail and what presents your country in the best light on a international fora.

and this thread does not even deserve to last thing long.

Well of course industry does not have the money (no aerospace company on earth would invest 20 Billion on a new fighter without government backing) but with MoD backing I think BAe could do it in a more efficient manner than a partnership.

I wouldnt be so sure but oki if you say so.

    FANTASTIC

We need a UK national project.

None of this waiting around for the Yanks or anyone else for that matter, lets bite the bullet, lets go for it.

It’s about time the UK got its act together and started developing something like a Harrier III, there could even be an export market (Spain, Italy, Thailand??)

industry doesnt have the money and the government cant justify it.

it needs to be a partnership to be efficient and effective.

Please do not misunderstand me. I used this as an example to prove that when a persons individuality is not stifled, he or she can achieve great heights. This can be drawn in parallel to the fact that prospective pilots who grow up in environments where their individuality is allowed to run its natural course without unwarranted State interference have this same advantage too. The quality of the resultant fighter pilot from such a society would be very high too.

    Regards

Not always, and you really have to know what you are talking about before you can even start to do this comparison let alone go down a route which has nothing but generalisations. What makes you think that a country with a system of governance other than democracy would not be able to implement a training regime good as if not better then a democracy?

And what makes you choose you’re so called “FREE” societies, just because government does not interfere does not mean that a person’s life is free. They are still governed by “social norms” or etiquette, the only difference between a democratic and non democratic country would be the level of interference of its leadership within society.

Unless you know the training regime of the non democratic country visa vie a democratic country you really cannot deliberate either way.

p.s. by stating that India has the highest number of billionaires in the world so it must be giving some chance for people to flourish you are just showing your ignorance at society within “the non democratic country”. Just because a person doesn’t always need to get his remuneration through some monitory exchange it can be done by “state assistance” is facilitating the “needs” of that person through some other means by which he can have items of value equal to the billionaire if not more.

I would be very careful about using the number of billionares within the country as a yard stick to measure the effective ness of its combat pilot, all this thread seems to be is a subversive way of bringing peoples racist and biased opinions on a international fora without threat of reprisal.

Let’s say it must be stealthy (how stealthy & hence expensive is a matter for y’all) & supersonic. After all, it’s meant to be an F-35B alternative.

One thing that should be borne in mind is that the F-35B lift fan is by Rolls-Royce, so should not be subject to US restrictions – though they might expect a commission, having paid most of the development cost – and the F136 engine (the F-35B alternative engine which the Pentagon has decided to drop) is a joint GE/RR venture (60/40), so might also be available without tech transfer problems. Though it’s not fully developed, it has been running in tests for 2 years.

I’m a bit disappointed that nobody’s really addressed the main questions yet.

you still may have those tech transfer problems, it doesnt matter if the company is UK if the research it has done is in the USA then it unfortunately comes under US regulations and stipulations.

How about a joint venture between Britain, Russia, France and India

France will get the same carrier as the UK in a few years time, India will get carriers one of which maybe about the same deck size as the french and english one and the navy could do with getting its own research projects for once, and russia for cheap tech skilled labour, scientist and experience in VTOL.

yup keep BAe out of this completely!
